Last Season's Final

This Season's Contenders

Horse : Erebos

Erebos' chances in this race are difficult to weigh up. Judging by the way Victor Consortio turned a quick profit and sale on him may reflect that one of the most respected trainers of virtual racing did not rate his chances in this final. The horse has shown some solid form on a muddy surface and most lately put in a respectable effort on firm. The 1400m trip will hold no issue for the horse but whether he is quite up to the task in this is the question. Drawn well enough he could be in with a chance.

Trainer : Freak Out

Willie The Pimp arrived on the scene with a bang and run up a winning sequence in his first three races, including a qualifier over 1600m on a firm going. He appears to be a horse who can handle the sprint trips with efficiency. Interestingly, his yard had started his career with the blinkers on, only to remove them for his last five races. His 4lb penalty in this may cost him the win but he certainly looks like one who will make his mark at this level. His ability to run well from 1200m to 1600m will serve his yard well. He is not out of this by any means.

Horse : Woo Hoo
Trainer : Grange Park

Will there be woo hoo's in the Grange Park yard when they cross the line this festival? It certainly looks a race that could be right up Woo Hoo's street. His chance in this will laregly depend on how he fairs in the Ladbrokes Monthly Final. A win there would add another 2lb penalty, that alone could be enough to significantly reduce his chance of victory here. His niche seems to be on a dirt track, although solid and consistant efforts on turf have got him to this final. Keep a close eye on this one as they make the turn for home, if he is close up he could hold all the aces.

Horse : Anzac Cove
Trainer : Unconte Stable

Anzac Cove has been handled well since his stable switch. The colt will race here off the minimum weight and in a race where every pound is vital, light weight runners could be the deciding factor on the outcome. His ability seems to be held in high regard on a dirt track and he has put in some sterling efforts on the surface. He is going to need all his talent on display here to pressure some of these but he has chances in a race that looks far from predictable.

Horse : Flood Line

His yard would have been expecting a better show of him in the recent Ladbrokes Monthly Final. That race was won in impressive style by Charging Whole. His auction price looks a bargain price based on ability and coming out of a yard that knows exactly how to handle the pressure cooker of the challenge series environment will for sure boost his chances in this. Drawn widest of all is not helpful to his cause, though it would be no suprise to see a decent effort from this one. It is going to be a difficult hustle but he remains a major fancy in the race. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

Trainer : Shotgun Mike

Charles Manson is an interesting runner in the race. Brought in by the yard at auction there may have been something in his time trials that only the champion trainer saw. He ceratinly has the promise on a dirt track but has also shown that he is up there on a firm track. The negative in this race must be his draw. Two off the rail is a psition that history has not favoured. Only two championship titles over course and distance in the last thirty-six runnings have come from the stall. If his ability is similar on a firm track as it is on muddy he will have each way claims.

Horse : Walt Cardy
Trainer : Mac Hardy

Walt Cardy is the lightest raced juvenile that will line up to contest this final. His three qualifiers were contested on a sound surface and can be read in two ways. Either he has been running flat out or he has been soundly bagged into the final. His debut was won with relative ease. The runners in that race have not ammounted to much and it could be considered a very weak race. However, his form has been good enough to warrant some respect amongst this field and his lightweight could serve the colours well. Closely observed.

Trainer : Stacey Racing

There is no doubt that Charging Whole is for sure the best colt this season over the minimum trip. The way he took down the Ladbrokes Monthly final was impressive to say the least and subsequent runs against high class and older opposition definitely cements his ability. The issue with him in this race is his trainers enthusiasm for wins. He has had too many and his weight penalty will put his title credentials on the back burner. This race will be a step too far but next season under level weight racing, he could dominate. Easily opposed in this.

Trainer : Shotgun Mike

Capitan Americano has to come into this race held in the highest regard. It will come of no suprise to see this one overcome a nasty draw and upset recent statistics. On form this season it doesn't read great but there is no doubt a lot of bagging has been done getting him here. With the shoes off he ran a stormer on a yielding surface which would suggest that his trainer has him geared up for that going. This one is sure to go close with a run and maybe if yielding is the dish of the day, game over!

Trainer : Steakpie

Steakpie handles his challenge charges well. The fact that this one comes here without making too much impression in his races cannot be underestimated. A clever piece of training prior to his consolation race in the monthly, prevented him picking up the win and with it a 2lb penalty in this race. His yard must be quietly confident of his chances in this and expect a good show. Will it be a bad day for all? A potential champion waiting in the wings?

Trainer : Shotgun Mike

Boss Matsumoto just managed to scrape into this final ahead of Sundown Kid with a last gasp second in his latest qualifier. Consistency has been paramount to Boss during all his qualifying races and he gets a plum draw for this final. His race behind stable mate, Freddy Krueger, rates up as impressive enough. Having not got the best of it in the race, this line of form cannot go unnoticed. The 2lb penalty shouldn't put too much of a burden on him and expect this one to fly. He may turn for home with all to play for and something tells me there could be a flood of green running up to line.

Horse : Lone Pine
Trainer : Daltons Donkeys

His auction price was cheap enough and he will surely pave the way to a tidy profit in his career. His future may be carved over 1600m and he should go well in the Ladbrokes Monthly Final. The step down to 1400m for this final may catch him out with others looking better suited. His best effort in this race will come if the ground comes firm but he is more likely to be midfield at the line than a champion prospect.

Trainer : Bottlebrush

Bottlebrush has come close to tasting challenge success in the past and his Noble Warrior comes into this race no exception. He has shown up well enough in qualifiers to suggest his ability is good, however, there are a few others that look a little bit more promising. You cannot discount Noble Warrior and a bold show would certainly put him in the mix. If he is going to win this race then he will have to find a little bit extra but he remains lively and not without an each way chance.

Trainer : Juliassilas

The 2lb penalty he will shoulder in this race will be taken in his stride. The major concern is his tight draw against the rail. If he can get away early and forge a lead he will be a difficult proposition to overhaul. The distance is suited and it appears on the yielding run of late that he too will look to run at his best on that surface. A similar run was put in by Capitan Americano in the same race and these two could be like peas in a pod. It will be interesting to see this one at full throttle and despite a difficult starting position, he could run well, extremely well !!
