If Secretariat Sundae isn't a horse flavored ice cream then what is it?

Secretariat was an American Thoroughbred racehorse, who became the first U.S. Triple Crown champion in twenty-five years in 1973, setting new race records in two of the three events in the Series—the Kentucky Derby (1:59 2/5), and the Belmont Stakes (2:24)—records that still stand today.

Secretariat is a 2010 American biographical film produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Mayhem Pictures. Chronicling the life of Secretariat, the 1973 race horse winner of the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing. Diane Lane portrays Secretariat's owner, Penny Chenery, and John Malkovich plays the part of Secretariat's trainer, Lucien Laurin. Filming took place on location in Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky and around Lafayette, Louisiana and Carencro, Louisiana.

Housewife and mother Penny Chenery (Diane Lane) agrees to take over her ailing father’s Virginia-based Meadow Stables, despite her lack of horse-racing knowledge. With the help of veteran trainer Lucien Laurin (John Malkovich), Chenery manages to navigate the male-dominated business, ultimately fostering the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years and what may be the greatest racehorse of all time.

Secretariat was sired by Bold Ruler (a grandson of Nearco) and foaled to Somethingroyal. He was foaled at Meadow Farm inCaroline County, Virginia. Like the equally famous horse Man o' War, Secretariat was a large chestnut colt and was given the same nickname, "Big Red." Owned by Penny Chenery (aka Penny Tweedy), he was trained by Lucien Laurin and mainly ridden by fellow Canadian jockeyRon Turcotte, along with apprentice jockey Paul Feliciano (first two races), and veteran Eddie Maple (last race). He raced in Penny Chenery's Meadow Stable's blue and white checkered colors and his groom was Eddie Sweat. Secretariat stood approximately 16.2 hands (66 inches, 168 cm) tall, and weighed 1,175 pounds (533 kg), with a 75 inch girth, in his racing prime.

Graham Clifford finds a cobra salad at the 2010 DEHLI Commonwealth Games!

Biography: Graham is the sports editor of the Irish Post newspaper in London and has been a broadcast and print journalist for the last eight years working in the U.K., Australia and in his native Ireland. He presents a show on local BBC radio in the South East of England and claims to have Psychic powers. He once caught a falling star and glued it back in space again and is in line to become next King of Greenland!

Raceclub owner’s help out Commonwealth Games organizers

The sport of Kings may be our tipple but still many of you have rose to the challenge of assisting the organizers of Delhi’s commonwealth Games. I asked in the last view from the stands competition what should the Game’s new slogan have been. There were numerous good answers but perhaps Wattos stable hit the nail on the head. Their suggestion “"The 2010 DEHLI Commonwealth Games" "Pole-vaulters on hand to cater for all your transport needs." There are one or two holes in this proposal though namely India isn’t noted for it’s high quality pole vaulters! Also the air quality in Delhi is such that pole-vaulting from A to B may be a health hazard. I would suggest though that health and safety isn’t a priority, the following article more or less confirms this!:

“Another deadly cobra snake was discovered by workers slithering down a drain in Dehli's new tennis stadium just days before the Commonwealth Games are due to start. The 4ft-long reptile was captured by an expert from animal rescue organisation Wildlife SOS as workers rushed to complete preparations for Sunday's opening ceremony. It is the second snake to be discovered near Games' facilities after one was found in a South African athlete's room yesterday. And in another embarrassment for organisers, an Indian boxer fell through his bed in the athletes village. But Delhi's chief minister today said put a gloss on progress and insisted she was confident they would complete the job. Members of the English team who had been forced to check themselves into a hotel because preparations were so far behind schedule, moved into the games village. 'The facilities are fine, and right now they are enjoying their lunch,' said a spokeswoman”

Yes a lunch of cobra salad!

Well done Wattos, for your helpful efforts you’ve scooped this week’s £10 in bonus credits, enjoy!

Praise for Raceclubs, what next?!

It was good to see some praise for the staff at Raceclubs last week. Lee from the Moletown yard wrote “Entry Fee has been reduced to £2.60, halving original cost.” Members of the Raceclubs customer service team had to be treated for shock after reading this message! Now that the message of praise has been penned surely it’s time for more complaints or are the owners going soft!

Raceclub’s writer found under Indian boxer’s bed

Part-time croupier and occasional writer Graham Clifford has been found seriously injured under the bed of an Indian boxer ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Clifford, 21, who’s writing style has been compared to Shakespeare, was on the run after a controversial article in which he asked if owners on the popular Raceclub’s website were going soft. Clifford didn’t expect the boxer to fall through his bed and it’s suspected a Raceclubs owner posed as a chamber maid to rig the bed in question. A spokeswoman for the Commonwealth Games said “ Graham is fine and right now he’s enjoying his lunch!”

Eire Stables goes Head2Head with Zip Stables for $50. Who will get your vote?

Moletown's $50 Head2Head

Eire Stables Vs Zip Stables
Who will get your vote?

When Tocohnas won the vote and the $50 prize in the last "Head2Head" many would consider that it was his stables versatility that gained him the vote. His yard produced the goods over the game period and his peers decided that he had performed better overall. This month two stables go "Head2Head" once again. Zip Stables and Eire Stables are two yards that are predominantly running lower grade G2 and G3 horses and it is this area of their stables that will contribute towards your final judgement. Zip Stables is void of any G1 horses, so in the interest of fair play, Eire Stables' G1 horses will not count during the game period. Both stables are no stranger to the rated race scene and have their fair share of success at this level as you can see by the statistics below for the month of September.

Eire Stables is holding a current stock of nine G2 horses. The stable has a mixture of claims, auction and sales ring purchases. They have displayed a canny knack to secure the services of a decent sort at the minimum of outlays. If you look around the stable, you will see a plethora of horses picked up for next to nothing. One of the catches that has stood out like a sore thumb was the claim of "Death On Fire", a June 17th bid from the yard secured the then, two year old colt and he has gone on to make a very decent profit for the yard. The three year old regularly competes in the highest calibre level weight and WFA races and since joining Eire Stables has won six races. Eire Stables has demonstrated discipline with his auction captures and has hardly strayed from a minimum bid when fancying a punt. It is always good business to turn a cheap claim or auction purchase into a money spinner and Eire Stables has done just that with many of his G2 horses.

The G3 numbers are a little stronger, fifteen in total, of which it is nice to see him stay loyal to one of his free horses that were given to him when joining RaceClubs.com. Shamrock Danoli, a four year old colt who favours the classic trip was born the day the yard chose their silks; and he has remained a servant ever since, picking up twenty wins in the graded and rated race arena. It's easy to see that the yard is astute when it comes to the G2 and G3 rated scene as they regularly play the game at this level, with success coming almost daily. Many of the yard's G3 horses have been brought in via the auction. Ten out of the fifteen have been picked up in the fortnightly sales, many of them at the minimum bid. It is an interesting tactic that the yard employs and it obviously works, bringing him many wins. It's unclear just how much time or money is spent in the sales ring but eight of his current G2 and G3 crop have come directly from the ring.

Zip Stables are a stable who is more concentrated on G3 horses than G2. His yard currently houses twenty-four horses, most of which have been acquired from auction. Of the nags that currently carry the stable colours, only two are G2 horses, G2 Boo and Slickster. The former has been the yards most expensive purchase, when they paid HM Forces Horses in excess of £70 for the sprinter. Maybe the failings of this horse have been the main motivation for the yard to concentrate their efforts within the G3 graded and rated series. The 1000m specialist has found life difficult at the track, taking eighteen races to crack his maiden. Beyond that win, it appears that the horse was not granted the best of age changes and has since resorted to racing in claimers. Sometimes it is a difficult pill to swallow when horses don't turn out to run as expected, judging by their TTs, although this experience has not stopped the yard dabbling in the auction.

When auction time looms, you will often see the name of Zip Stables, hunting the best G3s the site has to offer. Along with the likes of Thesidleyspanker et al, the yard possesses all the attributes to be successful in the rated arena at G3 level. Wins are frequent amongst their rated runners and money doesn't seem to be an issue when it comes to securing the services of a G3 beauty. The one horse that the stable are very proud of is Truck On. The five year old filly is one of the most successful rated runners to take to the track at RaceClubs.com. Her consistency over the classic and staying distance is remarkable, never out of the frame in the graded arena and scoring twenty-five wins at rated level are two good reasons to admire the filly. With two whole seasons to run, it's a certainty that the success will continue until retirement. Zip Stables is a yard that rarely visits the sales ring and few have come via the way of claims. Success comes to the stable by virtue of discipline and good race placement, attributes that all trainers aspire to.

Moletown's Thoughts

This month is going to be a very evenly fought battle. The G2 numbers may favour Eire Stables but I think the battle will be won and lost in the rated races. As you can see by last months statistics, both trainers are very evenly matched. What I like about this match-up the most is the ability of both trainers to identify and land a cheap auction horse, invariably turning in a profit on the horse. Both trainers are now experienced enough to know what the rated scene requires to succeed and I am very much looking forward to seeing the outcome of what I believe to be a tight affair. The challenge will now span the whole calendar month and started 1st October, ending 31st October. The voting poll will then be open for seven days to allow the maximum number of votes to be cast and the winner, as always will be credited $50 bonus credits from the "Bank Of Moletown". Just to clarify, G1 horses from either stable will not count towards the final outcome of this challenge.

Next month's titanic battle will be.... Solais Vs Gedgeys Top Guns

If you've won a Challenge Series race we want to interview you; because living in obscurity doesn't make you famous!

Outstanding Challenge Series Interviews

Challenge Series winners are notoriously difficult to contact, especially while they’re jet setting and spending their Challenge Series winnings on fast cars, loose women and hard liquor- as a result we’re missing their Challenge Series interviews- which we need ASAP for an upcoming bumper edition of Challenge Series interviews.

If you’ve won a Challenge Series, please complete the following interview and forward to the Member Support Team (Subject: Challenge Series Interviews).

If you know of any former Challenge Series winner that has never been interviewed please ask them to complete this interview so we can update their profile pages, publish their interviews around the world through our blogs, twitter and Facebook- and even the forums!

Interviews can be complete for individual victories, or an overall interview discussing all your victories. Additionally, if you’ve won a Fantasy Raceclubs Stable Competition you are also welcome to complete the same interview.

> Stable name:

> Challenge Series Horse/s

> What did it feel like for you to win your Challenge Series?

> How optimistic were you about winning and who was your biggest rival in your races?

> What routines do you follow before the race / Who is the first person you share your victory with?

> How do you prepare for a Challenge Series & what advice would you give other trainers?

> What would you do differently in future Challenge Series?

> How do you celebrate winning the Challenge Series / how are you going to spend your winnings?

> Final Comments:

We look forward to receiving your completed interviews at your soonest convenience and sharing them with the virtual horse racing community.

Regards

Divine Diva Is Dazzling & Gracious- And Coming To A Challenge Series Near You

Divine Diva Is Dazzling & Gracious- And Coming To A Challenge Series Near You

Divine Diva has captured the world’s imagination; they came from nowhere, swept through the auctions even faster than their horses swept through the Challenge Series and yet what we know about them probably wouldn’t fill a postage stamp. One thing we learnt is that despite their apparent aloofness they’re quite approachable- they even agreed to an interview… but being typical divas they were quite firm about, “No Pictures!”

What attracted you to RaceClubs.com?
My brother actually had the account opened and I just took over the stables from him. He didn't have the patience for the game.

What’s been the best part of virtual horse racing for you so far?
Meeting people- most of them are nice and friendly. There are a couple of odd and unpleasant ones too but in general, everyone has been excellent here.

Are you getting value for money from your horses after the prices you’ve paid for them in the auctions?
I look at auctions like any real auctions I go to. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. There are things that you do that will affect the choices you make. Some are calculated buys and some bought on impulse and feel. I do my Buying based on both principles. So if a horse does not live up to the price tag, it will still be loved and cared for like the others. I take full responsibility for my decisions even if some of the players think that they have made an extremely good and fast sale.

How did your first win feel?
I really can't remember my first win. I would assume that the feeling was great and addictive. If it wasn't, I won't still be here.

Do you have any horses going for the Challenge Finals this season- or next season?
I have horses in the Challenge Finals. Quite a number of them I think.

Do you have a favourite horse- and why?
I don't have one. I like them all the same

What is your long term goal on RaceClubs.com?
I actually don't have one. All I want to do is race my horses and meet new people on the site. Might even think of helping some of them so that we can all enjoy the game further.

Is it true you want to topple Shotgun_Mike from the Hall of Fame?
Isn't that what everyone here wants?

International Spy dazzles the St Leger crowd!

What have you enjoyed most about virtual horse racing on RaceClubs.com?
I have enjoyed myself throughout the time I have been here. I like the people here. We all share a common passion, HORSE RACING. The one unpleasant incident that I feel is unnecessary are the comments posted by some of the players. They seem to know how to point out the faults and flaws of others but will never accept their own shortcomings, but I guess they are just human too.

Which trainers would you like to see featured in future and what questions would you like to ask them?
