Spot a winner and win $100 in Raceclubs Weekly Tipping Competition

The Raceclubs Weekly Tipping Competition runs every Monday to Saturday.

All tipsters begin with an imaginary balance of $200 for tipping the horses they think will win their designated races. The trainer with the most profit over their $200 is the winner. It’s that simple!

Free entry to members

How To Tip Your Winners

Players may only tip one horse in any designated race.

Players must tip a minimum of six races per week during the competition.

The minimum wager is $20 per race. There is no maximum wager.

All bets WIN only, no place betting, or bets of doubles/trebles.

Returns will be settled to Ladbrokes prices.

Players are allowed 1 NAP PER COMPETITION; a correct nap results in ODDS of selection being doubled and not the total tip, the amount wagered remains the same.

Tips will only be accepted through the designated weekly thread; therefore unsuspended forum access is a pre-requisite for participating in Raceclubs Weekly Tipping Competition. Correspondence via Inbox will not be accepted.

Tip one horse a day

Monthly Prizes

1 Monthly prize: $100 BC (overall best tipster)

1 Weekly prize: $15 BC (best tipster of the week)

In the event of a tie: please refer to Rule on tie for 14th spot in a Challenge Final

Prizes are awarded during the course of the first week of the following month.

Tipping Races

The competition will close nightly at 7pm and the next 5 races to be used, usually the 19.12, 19.24, 19.36, 19.48 and the 19.57 but this may change as they are at Ladbrokes' discretion, if it does the first five races after 7 pm GMT will be used.

Prizes are paid out at the end of each month or season.

Tip six races a week

Graham Clifford reviews Shotgun_mike's 10,000 wins in virtual horse racing @ Raceclubs.com

Biography: Graham is the sports editor of the Irish Post newspaper in London and has been a broadcast and print journalist for the last eight years working in the U.K., Australia and in his native Ireland. He presents a show on local BBC radio in the South East of England and claims to have Psychic powers. He once caught a falling star and glued it back in space again and is in line to become next King of Greenland!

Poetic license for melodic Moletown

All I can say is that I hope those who entered the most recent View from the stands competition put as much work into the poems on your Valentine’s Day cards as you did in your entries! I was gob-smacked by the quality of the poems, songs and ditties penned, excellent stuff. Now some felt uncomfortable writing loving words specifically for the race programmer with most assuming the person in question is a male. I’ve heard rumors, from Diane Hall so blame her if I’m wrong, that the programmer is an extremely masculine looking female! Anyway it gives me great pleasure to announce that Moletown’s tune (sung to the air of Daisy, Daisy) takes the £10 in bonus credits. If you missed it here it is:

RP, RP give me a race, grade 2. The forum's half crazy over the work you do. It isn't too much to ask, It's not a difficult task. So take the hint, Put in a stint, The current RP is poo.

Moletown points out that the ditty is “tongue in cheek”, an apt phrase to use on February 14th! Well done Moletown and to all those who took the time to enter the competition. You should all get together and set up a greeting card company!

Sensational shotgun mike breezes past 10,000 winners mark

When politicians and economists talk about the levels of national debt or the bail-outs handed to banks the figures mentioned are so massive they seem to make little sense. It feels as though somebody is taking a game of monopoly a bit too far. And in many ways I think shotgun_mike is in the same boat. I usually sing the achievements of those who pick up 50 or 100 wins in View from the stands. The fact that shotgun_mike has now sprinted past the 10,000 winners mark is almost as hard to fathom. If you blink you miss about ten of his winners on a daily basis! Shotgun_mike has had almost 51,000 races at the time of writing. By the time I finish this sentence that’s likely to have shot up as well! I’m sure a lot of money has been spent to achieve such amazing results but the prize winning figure of £561,685 is jaw-dropping. There are no words to explain such a brilliant achievement except…well….brilliant!

What a difference a few days make………….

Pat from the Dalton’s Donkeys stable wrote last Wednesday of his beloved Arsenal.. “We were magic tonight, bring on the Nou Camp” and to be fair you were right Pat. But then four days later the Premiership giants are held 1-1 at Leyton Orient! What a difference a few days make!

Happy birthday Hill Park yard

On Valentines Day Zak from the Hill Park yard was nestling up to his PC. Why? Well because not only does he have warm feelings for Raceclubs but also it was his first birthday on the site. Zak wrote “In my first year I got 179 winners and nearly four grand in prize money. It probably cost me five grand in nominations but I’m learning from my mistakes and enjoying the game. A big thanks to Unconte stable for advice when l started out and Gary from the flying fillies stable for his advice and tips”. Hope you enjoyed the birthday celebrations Zak.

If you’re ever bitten by a horse..

One day a stable owner went to check on his favourite colt. He was in for a shock, and as he opened the stall door, he saw the horse was rabid and foaming at the mouth. It went for him, and very quickly, gave him a nasty wound on the arm. His wife left to call 999, and when she got back she found him writing furiously. She told him that there was no need to make out his will, because they had a cure for rabies. He looked at her blankly and said, "Will? What will? I'm making a list of people I'm going to bite."

Introducing Flying Fillies from a village in Northern Ireland, Raceclubs.com. His boots were made for hiking!

Where you are from & what do you do?
I'm from a town in England called Evesham, although I am now an adopted Londoner (Eastender) as I have been living there since the early nineties, for me living in London is special because everything is on your doorstep as there is so much to see and do.

Alan Brotherton at Niagra falls

I decided to take a career break and travel around Greece and Italy for a while after being made redundant from my last job where I worked for five years as a City Guardian, which was patrolling the streets in Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus, the job consisted of a very wide range of things from finding and reporting street problems like broken pavements to working with the Police on solving anti-social behaviour in the area, to helping tourists, I am about to start looking for a new job shortly after taking 6 months off.

How do you enjoy spending your leisure time?
I'm a Tottenham Hotspur supporter and like to watch them, occasionally I go to the races at Sandown Park, Kempton Park, Epsom, Windsor and Plumpton, I also like to go to heavy metal concerts, travel and eating out.

What’s your favorite time of day / year?
My favourite time of the year is the spring, when you know that the winter is over and you are looking forward to a long hot summer and holidays.

What your happiest memory?
Difficult to single out one specifically, although I would have to say swimming with Dolphins in Cuba would be right up there.

What is your biggest dream?
Football ; Tottenham Hotspur to win the European Champions League.
Personally ; To have enough money not to have to work, so that I could travel to as many countries as possible to see as much of the world as I can.

Are you a good cook / what’s your favorite meal / drink?
I don't spend a lot of time cooking, although I try to eat as healthy as I can, I eat mainly plain old English Food although when I am on holiday I like to try some of the local dishes, my favourite drink is lager when I am out and Water or Tea when at home, sometimes the odd bottle of Wine.

What’s your favorite color / item of clothing?
I don't have a favourite colour, my favourite items of clothing are probably designer shirts I have bought whilst on my travels and my 2 pairs of Boots that I have had repaired about 50 times.

What was your favorite subject in school?
The Sports lessons by far especially Football.

What’s your favorite horse racing event?
The Grand National and Cheltenham Festival Meetings.

What’s your favorite historical event?
Tottenham Hotspur winning the League Challenge, as it was before I was born.

What’s your best tip for saving the environment?
Get a bag for life when out shopping and don't use plastic bags.

What’s your favorite song / book / television show / movie?
Song ; lots and lots of favourites, anything by Iron Maiden, Whitesnake, Def Leppard, Dio, Meat Loaf, Black Sabbath etc. I could go on.
Book ; anything by Stephen King.

Movie ; The Green Mile.

Who’s your favorite television show / movie / actor / actress / writer?

Actress ; Sienna Miller and Sandra Bullock.
Writer ; Stephen King.

What’s your biggest indulgence?
Chocolate.

What’s the best / worst thing you’ve heard about yourself?
On Raceclubs ; the best thing was praise for winning races, the worst thing was being criticised for putting a horse in a claimer and a certain trainer saying I didn't know what I was doing.

What’s the one thing nobody knows about you?
I used to be in a racehorse owners syndicate way back in the early nineties called Group 1 Racing, which is still going strong to this day and on my birthday we had a horse called King William which was ridden by Richard Dunwoody that was very good around Huntingdon over hurdles, it was a Wednesday afternoon and I was the only one of the Syndicate who attended, I had a large bet on the horse and he won.

The cartoon horse that sold for £1,350!

The first auction of Feb supplied not just the usual quality unraced types we see at auction, but proven older stock many of which with reliable levels/WFA form and not to forget proven challenge horses. In picking up the top two lots DerekW10 signalled his intentions to further strengthen his stable towards the levels it was previously at.

Campaign King Gissys Nags Wrs Stables £9.60 £213.73
Tannery Divine Diva Stables Sky Castle Stables £200.00 £200.00

Swift Conveyance - Black Death - Derekw10 - £1,350.00
Top lot Swift Conveyance made a quick debut for DerekW10 in a 2400 meter rated race and taking home the first prize. Swift rates a top class classic runner as such will be major force in her two year season in the classic challenge juvenile and would be anticipated to rate amongst the early favorites for glory the Oaks at Three.

Princess Natalie - Frankies Rockets - Derekw10 - £440.00
Most expensive of the raced lots Frankie Rocket’s three year old sprint Filly was the winner of the Ladbrokes Challenge Final over 1600 Meters during her two year old campaign. The Nunthorpe is its aim at three having already ran in six qualifiers, winning one and placing in a further 2 to currently sit seventh in standings.

Swiss Army - Divine Diva Stables - Juliussilas - £387.20

Divine purchased Swiss Army for £1200 in September from Flying Fillies, the Three year old colt has shown very credible form in the St Ledger Challenge series qualifiers especially over the final distance of 3200. Currently laying Thirteenth in the Ledger standings from 4 runs if pushed Swiss could have the possibility of making the final or Juliussilas may choose to take in the 1st Consolation option. I haven’t seen the training time, but on form seems a very fair purchase price, with the horse ideally set up for a further four year old campaign.

Hector Lavoe - Heavenstable - Divine Diva Stables - £355.74

Divine features once again purchasing the Two year old unraced colt Hector Lavoe, training time indicate a preference for the 1600 meter trip. Hector looks tailor-made for a Ladbrokes Monthly Challenge campaign with the March final scheduled for the 1600 meter trip over the dirt track of Dubai.

Gallipoli Prince - Gissys Nags - Cotton Castle - £352.00

Cotton Castle picks up the interesting three year old challenge colt Gallipoli Price from Gissgys Nag’s. “The Prince” has already racked up a fraction under £1800 in lifetime earning and Cotton was quick to recoup £5 profit for the run in the Hobart Cup WFA (under weak handling) on the morning of the purchase. Three year old targets are the Derby and St Ledger where “The Price” currently sits sixth and ninth respectively in the standings for each.

Wrong Equation – Heavenstable - Divine Diva Stables - £335.46

The second sale from Heavenstable again joins the Divine stable. The unraced two year old colt shows a preference for the 1400 meter trip and seems the ideal type to be aimed at the Sprinters Challenge Juvenile.

Anzac Cove - Gissys Nags - Unconte Stable - £304.86

Unconte purchases Anzac Cove, who currently sits 3rd in the qualifying standings for the Sprinters Challenge after collecting three places and a seventh in a four race qualifying campaign. On trials seems very similar horse to Wrong Equation.

Erebos - Victor Consortio - Diva Racing Club - £275.00

Another significant sprinter featuring high in the standings for the Sprinter Challenge Juvenile is sold at auction leaving the respected Victor Consortio stable to join the powerful yard of Diva Racing. Three qualifying runs has yielded one win, one place and a fifth, however the penalty incurred for the additional win could come into play come the final.

Running Shelby - Vasya - Tocohnas - £255.83

New purchaser Tocohnas saw the potential in Vasya’s unraced filly Running Shelby, only on first cycle when entered into the auction the challenge class filly showed enough to be purchased at £255.83. The immediate aim would seem to be Sprinter Challenge juvenile, however quick will be needed if the new owner is seeking a final position.

Cute N Cuddly - Murrumba Downs - Shotgun_Mike - £255.00

With three wins on the board Shotgun_Mike’s new inmate has wracked up over £400 in earnings. Cute has been mixing divisional and qualifying racing throughout his 3 year old career. With points on board for both Derby and St Ledger Cute seems to sure to add to the stable plethero of consolation runners come the season finales.

Queen Of Chelt – Bradlite - Shotgun_Mike - £223.20

2 year old challenge filly Queen of Chelt has been exclusively campaigned in qualifiers since making a successful debut in Ladbrokes maiden over the 2400 meter trip. After the successful qualifier campaign Queen holds a lofty second placing in the standing for the Stayers Challenge final and a 1st consolation placing (in 25th) in the Classic Challenge final.

Campaign King - Gissys Nags - Wrs Stables - £213.73

Could be one of the snips of the auction, had this down in value as much nearer to £500. Has mixed divisional and challenge racing to various success. Would seem logical as a Derby horse next season and then would anticipate Campaign King to be aimed at a King George campaign for it older career. One to watch with interest.

Tannery - Divine Diva Stables - Sky Castle Stables - £200.00

Tannery was initially purchased at auction in November for £500 by Divine Diva Stables from Flying Fillies however finds himself re-auctioned and an inmate of the all-conquering Sky Castle Stables yard.. The Three years old staying colt has mixed Division and Challenge racing and currently sits one place outside the final field (in 15th) in the standings for the St Ledger, the option for 1st Conso or Final is available to the new owner.

Nobody could have predicted that the nyborjare from Sweden would become a legend in the highly competitive world of virtual horse racing but within his first six months he was counted the top 24th most successful players of the year.

2006 was the year when Ken Allan enjoyed the honour of having the best stable on RaceClubs.com, followed by Dallas1, Andy Hargie Stables, Muggins Racing and THE OUTSIDERS. Derekw10 was the only other rookie to have joined that RaceClubs.com that year to have outperformed Shotgun_mike. He placed at the 11th position. Racingslim and Andy Hargie Stables achieved the highest runs/wins percentages- followed by Shotgun_mike with the 3rd position with of 21%.

Since joining RaceClubs.com Shotgun_mike has run over 36,000 races, earned his stable over £507,000 and won 37 Challenge Series titles. He may seem like the community’s most prolific runner but he’s an equally astute trainer as his eyes are always focused on his stable’s profits and percentages. He enjoys the highest runs/wins percentage amongst the top 20 players on RaceClubs.com for wins and earnings.

As a legendary trainer on RaceClubs.com, a distinction only shared with Team Johansson and Sky Castle Stables, Shotgun_mike has distinguished himself both for his excellent track record (no pun intended!) and also the quiet way in which he serves his community with modesty.

It is for this reason, amongst many others, that we are proud to send out the loudest shout-out to Shotgun_mike for winning his 10,000th race on RaceClubs.com. He probably thought we wouldn’t notice, or hoped we wouldn’t make a fuss, but we are excited to declare this Sunday as Shotgun Sunday

The RP has renamed ten races in honour of Shotgun_mike’s 10,000th racing victory. You have Shotgun_mike's progress races, Shotgun_mike's allowance races, Shotgun_mike's division races, Shotgun_mike's level weight races for 2Y colts and fillies and Shotgun_mike's WFA races.

Enter them, celebrate Shotgun_mike’s victory and when you celebrate your 10,000th win… we’ll be there to celebrate your 10,000th victory too!

Congratulations Shotgun_mike!!!

Shotgun_mike on winning the Nunthorpe and Queen Elizabeth Challenge Finals (July 2007)

What did it feel like winning your races?
I am in three finals this season and look forward to two of them. Shidarezakura is also in the Cesarewitch tomorrow Monday but doesn't manage 3.200 so she should finish last. I love to be in consolations and finals, these races is what it's all about. Have been waiting four months and these races will determine how much money I will have going into the next season, planing to make a big buy in the sales ring on the 1st.

I prefer the 4-7yo races because so many horses have been saved for a season or two, just to be at their best in these finals. Many great horses have low wins and have been sandbagged in qualifiers, so it's not easy to know which horses that have the best chances of winning.

I love to speculate, to talk with trainers about their horses and analyze my own chances.

Going into challenge finals you have to respect the top trainers. Many newcomers waste several wins in qualifiers and therefor get heavy in the finals, while the masterful Andy Hargie, Dallas, Derekw, Heinz, RedHalo etc always give their horses the best chances of winning the finals, so to compete with these guys you have to raise the bar and think like they do. It takes great skill and patience to play this game and you won't achieve greatness over night. My goal is to compete with the big boys of RC and to do so I must develop my patience, which is lacking most times.
I am really looking forward to sundays two finals, but hope that I will have even more finalist next couple of seasons.

How optimistic were you about winning and who was your biggest rival?
I have been looking forward to the Nunthorpe all season after the debacle in the Sprinters Challenge last season where Grimgor Ironhide got her least favoured going: firm. This season was to be her big revansch, and if she got muddy she would be hard to beat from a topdraw (nr 2). But... she got fast and that felt like someone stuck a knife in my back. 13 runs so far at fast hadn't given any victories, or even second places, so I went from dreaming of a win, to "look forward" to a 9th-12th place or something like that.

Some hopes were lit when experienced trainer Heinz wrote on the forum that he thought that Grimgor looked to be the surest final winner, so now I raised my hopes to maybe 4th place if Saxon was luring about outside my stable (like he did when The Crown secured a stable double
in saturdays consolation). In the same race I had Rallying Cry but she doesn't manage 1.200 meters and shouldn't even be in this final. I just hoped that Grimgor would get the best jockey random of the two, not R.C. that couldn't even beat a G2 with Saxon onboard at 1.200 meters.
Some days ago I had a very (wet?) dream where me, Ken Allan and Andy Hargie sat on an airplane on our way to China. Me and Ken talked about Hong Kong-movies, while me and Andy mostly talked about Ellegance. Don't ask my why some RC-trainers haunt me in my dreams but they do. I was very interested to hear about Ellegance and if Andy had sandbagged her as a 3yo. He said "no", but I still thought he had a rabbit in his hat and would set Ellegance loose in the Sprinters Final. For me, Ellegance was number 1 - but I also had a big outsider in Outsiders Scent of Menthol. Eklitop is probably the best 3yo sprinter around but from post 14 it would take a great random to win. Also Eklitop seems much better at 1.400-1.600. And what could Migirl Torinne do from the best post?

In the other final of the day, Queen Elisabeth, I had two very nice horses: Flying Beauty and Shidarezakura. F.B. finished last season finishing 2nd in the Oaks Final, while Shidare didn't make the final. 2.200 meters wasn't ideal for neither of them but with 124/126 lbs I still hoped that my gems would finish inside the money, even if the race looked very competitive with monsters from the Andy Hargie and Derekw stables. DUB was okay for Flying Beauty, winning a qualifier on that track, while Shidare would have preferred CAN.

My feeling before the race was that both my horses where much better at 2.400-2.850 meters, so best thing would have been to save them for next seasons finals (at 2.400 & 2.850 meters...).
Derek had Sweet Destiny qualified and that one felt like my biggest competitor together with Andys horse with the strange name. I'll just call it "Ankan" = means "The Duck" in swedish.

My feeling before the race, while writing this, is that Andy will win both my finals.

Do you follow routines before a race?
My two brothers sometimes watch the big races together with me, especially my kid brother Allan. He was with me when Grimgor Ironhide won the Getminted Final last season, so I guess he brings me luck. Hm, should have held hands with him when the final going was decided. ;)

I don't get very nervous anymore but it's still very exciting to watch races, even though I still battle with lag with my race viewer. I will probably not sit on the toilet like Derek did last season, instead I will stand out and walk back and forth when the clock ticks down to 0. Often you can see early on in the race if your horse will have anything to do with the outcome, so hopefully Saxon, Girard, Bailey and Doyle find their way to my four finalists.

I don't have any routines before big races, mostly I just sit around looking into space, bored because the minutes seem to pass all too slowly. If I have like two hours to kill before a big race I mainly take a walk in the forest, or watch a movie on the tv.

How do you prepare for a Challenge Series race & what advice would you give other trainers? What would you do differently in future Challenge Series?
I think I have covered most in the question before this. If I have any advice to other trainers? Well, it would be not to expect too much. It's better to expect nothing, and if your horse gets inside the money you will feel even happier about him/her. Always respect the fact that there are super trainers playing this game, so your nice horse will maybe not stand a chance against the likes of LGL, Bullet and so on. Just be happy to be in the final, and if a top random is given you – smile all the way to the bank!
In the future challenge series I have only one plan - to give my horses a fair chance in finals, and not waste wins in qualifiers.
You can do that when they turn 7yo instead. Don't be in a hurry, this game is a commitment over many seasons, not just one.
Wasting wins in division races early on with challenge horses always makes me cry, so if you have nice younger horses with low wins save them a season or two and then take on the big boys in the challenge series. I promise you, a win of 120 lbs as 4yo in an qualifier gives much more satisfaction then winning a four-horse C Division at 2yo...

How do you celebrate after winning Challenge Series?
Well... I want to expand my stable so ALL money will probably go straight into the sales ring, so please give me the wins, RC. ;) The finals haven't been raced when I write this so I guess you won't get this news in time, but hopefully you are reading my mind right now...

I guess most people would open a bottle of Crystal (spelling?) if winning a final, but because I don't drink alcohol I will have to do with 7-Up. *lol*

Would be nice to meet my best mate after winning a final but because the races are run in the middle of the night (hmm) he will probably in the act of counting sheep, so don't want to wake him up with the great news. If I win, or if he wins the Derby with Lazy Smoke, I hope we will treat each other with royal dinners... at McDonalds or Burger King.

Times like these you have to live a little and don't be cheap.

Hermitage Kennels enjoys a good Guinness after racing @ www.raceclubs.com

Where you are from & what do you do?
I'm from Roscrea in County Tipperary, the home of the ancient game of Hurling...what could be more special than that!

How do you enjoy spending your leisure time?
I love sport. I'm still playing Sunday League Football, at the age of 37 and I also play 7aside on the all-weather pitch twice a week. I support the Tipperary Hurlers and I'm a big Sheffield Wednesday fan. I love looking after my dog, taking her for walks out in Togher Woods. Love animals in general, especially birds.

What’s your favorite time of day / year?
I love when the Winter is well over and the best of Spring has arrived and that first glimpse of a Swallow or House Martin that, for me, signals the begining of Summer.

What your happiest memory?
My that's a tough question. First to spring to mind is being in Cardiff for Sheffield Wednesday's 2005 liga 1 play-off final triumph and also being in Croke Park last September for Tipperary's famous victory over Kilkenny.

What is your biggest dream?
Fantasy wise, it would probably be to own a successful string of flat horses, real racing I mean. OR To have a job working with animals, in conservation maybe.

Are you a good cook / what’s your favorite meal / drink?
I'm not too bad at cooking. I make a fantastic curry. Slow roast Belly of Pork is my favourite meal, followed by 2 gallons of Guinness.

What’s your favorite colour / item of clothing?
Blue by a long shot. I have a shirt I love, it's blue of course.

What was your favorite subject in school?
Maths.

What’s your favorite horse racing event?
A deadheath between...The English or Irish Derbys and The Aintree Grand National and Cheltenham festival.

What’s your favorite historical event?
The Big Bang.

What’s your best tip for saving the environment?
Re-cycle, re-use and conserve.

What’s your favorite song / book / television show / movie?
Raglan Road. The Tao of Pooh. The Wire. The Outlaw Josie Wales.

Who’s your favorite television show / movie / actor / actress / writer?
Al Pacino is my favourite actor.

What’s your biggest indulgence?
Too many to mention!

What’s the best / worst thing you’ve heard about yourself?

What’s the one thing nobody knows about you?
Seriously?
If I told you that...

What charity / cause do you feel most passionately about?
Homelessness and Nature Conservation.

What’s your favorite part of virtual horse racing?
Building my stable from the bottom up. Starting out with some free horses, to currently having a few nice G2s in house. Onwards and upwards.

If you won the lotto… I'd invest in those Flat Horses I dream about. Send a couple to Stoute, Weld, Oxx, Gosden, Johnstone et al.
