What did it feel like for you to win your Challenge Series?
Amazing! to say the least after quite a few years of watching owners win finals and dreaming that one day that could be me and then to win three in one season including The Classic was absolutely mind blowing. How optimistic were you about winning and who was your biggest rival in your races?
I wasn't feeling very lucky at the time even though I knew I had a top quality horse in Urban Legend in two finals as both fields were full of top class horses with my biggest rivals being El Nino's Got A Bro, Ultimate Fantasy and more so in the Classic Shotgun's Dream. What routines do you follow before the race / while watching the race?
For finals it's normally a six pack to either celebrate after a win or drown my sorrows after seeing ole Tommy Kerr butcher one of my champs lol, Watching the race well there's no real routine there apart from pulling the whip at the 600m mark(a rolled up bit of A4 out of the printer lol) GO YOU GOODTHING!!. The first person to share my triumph with was the missus (not the smartest thing i've ever done).
How do you prepare for a Challenge Series?
After advice given to me from some of the best trainers of all time to race challenge series you need to know your horse, know your enemy and most of all you need to be patient as you really need to keep the weight off to have the best chance, there is nothing worse than come the finals day and your horse is 4lbs heavier than everyone else. How do you celebrate a Challenge Series victory?
Like I said above a cold beer and plenty of cheering, the winnings went on a new pool table. Final Comments:
I'd just like to once again thank all the trainers who helped me get there they know who they are and newbie's don't be worried about racing in the top class should you pull a nice one from the sales ring as there is always plenty of advice out there just ask the people who know cause challenge racing is where the fun is
