Start training your horses to win their races- not for feeding stray cats!

TRAINING101: The Essential Training Guide.
Feb 17, 07

Training is the foundation of a successful racing career. It is equally important for increasing fitness while identifying your horse’s racing preferences. Poorly trained horses lose races, waste money and make a complete mockery of competitive racing.

TRAINING101 is the most comprehensive guide to training, managing and racing your horses. It assumes you are already familiar with the How To Play guide and HELP; and moves forward with the fastest, most efficient training strategies ever for both newbie trainers and veterans alike.

If you’ve only bought one horse, or 101 horses, we suggest you master the fine art of training, because the sooner you finish your homework the quicker you can watch the races!

1: Train Smarter- Not Harder!

Your quickest training session ever averages 12 runs within minutes!

Step 1: Train once over 1400, 2200 & 2850 (same track & going).
Result: Preference for sprint, classic or stayer distances established.
NB: These lengths are not indicative of racing potential or track preference as performance may improve over different conditions but you may have an idea of preferred distances for your first nomination.

Step 2: Apply & assess impact of tack on raceable horses.
Alumites: Train 3X over preferred distances (same going).
Gelding: Train <90% fitness over different track surface.
Result: Horses trained to 90% fitness over general distances and assorted tracks.

ACTION: Nominate into a Maiden race based upon preferences.

The following training cycle (50 -90%) can be completed over preferred tracks with varying goings to fine-tune preferences. Alternate runs with & without blinkers to ascertain if your horses like blinkers; eg. 1 x preferred track without blinkers. Repeat with blinkers. Repeat over another track.

Step 3: Create a new stable category for under-achievers.
Set training variables for tracks, distances & goings to ALL >> Run Barrier Races.
Using the BACK button, continue running barrier races until training session is over.
The system automatically trains over all tracks, distances & goings.
Result: Quicker fitness flips allows more time to manage better horses.

Step 4: Apply Auto-Trainer [Ta] over ALL variables <95%.
Continue training until first stabling fee. Remember to flip over 100%.
Auto-Trainer completes 90+ training variables. Effortless!
Result: Barrier victims exposed for bulk retirement.

ACTION: Horses with racing potential: Tack > Nominate > Keep!

2: Forget Failures. Remember Results.

Analyze over 90 training results within a minute!

Click: BARRIER RACE HISTORY [B] >> EXPORT HISTORY.

Copy into an Excel document.
Sort lengths in descending order. The highest lengths in relation to fitness confirm preferences.
Sort track, distance & going alphabetically. Ensure you’ve covered all training variables.
Result: Racing strategy determined by horse’s preferences.

QuickTIP: Abbreviate preferences for future reference.
Eg: 14/18 D < X (1400 to 1800M dirt tracks < X lengths)

Action: Save preferences to the following pages for quick reference, future races and easier stable management:-

Step 1: Horse Details Page.
You’ll like what you see whenever you mouse over your horse’s name.

Step 2: Horse preferences [Hp].
Your nominations just got faster & smarter.
[Hp] determines programming so your horse gets the race it wants.

Step 3: Auto-Nomination [Na].
The ultimate stable management tool when you don’t have time to nominate your horses.
Your horse’s preferences, your decision, [Na]’s responsibility!

3: Exploit the Auto-Trainer to your advantage.

After establishing preferences, training becomes a fitness-boosting routine. We suggest activating the Auto-Trainer [Ta] to have your horses racing fit whenever you open your stable door. Less time spent training means more time for racing!

Get twice the results in half the time.
Set the Default settings to ALL (regardless of preferences)
Each training session will be run over different tracks which fine-tunes preferences down to the exact going.
Result: Over time you’ll have the most comprehensive training history; useful for identifying further preferences.
Periodically analyze results for a better understanding of your horse’s abilities & preferences.
Repeat as required, especially after age changes, when form drops or when evaluating new horses purchased through claimers & auctions.

Essential Reading:
For detailed information it is important that all trainers also read the Racing Explained guides, HELP, FAQs and the Glossary.

Cannibalizing The Tipping Competition - sink your teeth into this before it closes @ 15:00 GMT!

Cannibalizing The Tipping Competition

The RaceClubs.com Challenge Series is so highly competitive that for many trainers it is a rite of passage that defines their character and cements their reputation in the community, so you don’t mess with their horses, you don’t tap them on the shoulder for their attention and you don’t dare suggest that another trainer’s horse has a good shot at the title- unless you know both trainers equally well, in which case you feign an inexplicable case of Kuru disease and maintain a low profile during the Challenge Series.

This isn’t always possible because on RaceClubs.com there are so many fantastic horses available that most of them (okay we said it!) have incredibly close shots at their respective Challenge Series titles, notwithstanding the fact that most trainers are RaceClubs.com are an even tempered amiable bunch that you’re likely to be best friends with everyone but during a Challenge Series your loyalties better be clean-cut otherwise you could easily ruin a friendship. During a Challenge Series your allegiance is just as important as the title in contention.

This is not one of those times where you put your money where your mouth is; in fact you keep your mouth shut but put your money in the Tipping competition. RaceClubs.com never divulges the details of your entry so you can always blame someone else’s horses if your tipping selection doesn’t net you the biggest pool of cash and bonus credits… and you keep recycling that story to everyone you know who asks you if you tipped any of their horses.

Only Graz and Sky Castle Stables knows which horses they tipped in 2004 when they shared about $500 and $360 Bonus Credits. To date neither of them have revealed which horses they tipped (as far as we know); while it is unlikely the both tipped the have chosen the same horses they at least got five right. In 2006, Maximas, Aspirin and Debarz split $710.00 Cash and $300.00 Bonus Credits three ways- ironically; they could have each chosen a different horse from each of the Challenge Series and still won.

Dallas1 enjoyed a lucky streak of winning selections: between 2004 and 2008 he was either predicting the most winners or sharing the pool with another trainer. RaceClubs.com prefers not to disclose if he always tipped his own horses just to confirm that he usually tipped the ones that would win. He once won $860! He’s also shared the prize with enough people to wish he was on death row- including Death Row!

One of the biggest hauls was in 2004, when Racingslim beat 61 other tipsters to win $920. Now if you can win that kind of money just by entering the Tipping competition you probably don’t need to bother with buying horses, training them, supping them or even logging in to see them. In which case you’re probably not even paying attention to a word you’ve just read.

You are going to want to pay attention to what happened in the previous season because it is a bit of a brain twister: Shotgun_mike came first, second and third for having one, five and ten correct predictions. He shared the first prize with Sky Castle Stables, who had one entry with ten correct predictions, he shared his third prize with Sky Castle Stables and Victor Consortio who shared four entries with nine correct predictions, followed by a third prize which he shared with Sky Castle Stables, again, because they had three entries with 8 correct predictions. Okay while you work out that matharithmatics on that one …

Did you know that the more entries there are in the Challenge Series Tipping competition the bigger the prize? And even better than just winning bonus credits you will win the cash? And while you might say you can spot a champion by its first training run we say you should put your money where your mouth is and enter the Challenge Series Tipping Competition!

If you want to "Add A RACE" to Raceclubs' race program simply click "REQUEST"!

Add-A-Race (Request & Match a Race)

Add-A-Race (Request & Match a Race), as previously announced is a new system of race scheduling to ensure that you get the race that you want more frequently.

We are delighted to introduce this today. Please be aware that it will take a few weeks to implement completely as the daily schedule becomes more demand driven. It will naturally be tweaked and there are phases planned to further develop it.

How does ‘Request & Match a Race’ work (the basics):

Step 1 > Filter normal RACE SCHEDULE as you usually do on a horses ‘Enter Race’ page,
Step 2 > If no race is found, you can REQUEST the race for other stables to MATCH with an eligible horse,
Step 3 > If two or more stables MATCH the race then it is added to the RACE SCHEDULE (given a date & time),
Step 4 > (optional) Use the 'Share' race facility to inform friends and rivals alike about the race.
Step 5 > Race

To add a race just click request

‘Request & Match’ a race in more detail:

The ‘Enter Races’ Page:
o All race types (Graded and Rated) are available to request except special races, Claimers, Qualifiers and Finals which the programmer will continue to schedule.
o Owners can select races from the available race categories/types only, ie. Handicapping and Entry Fee is determined by the Category selected for which your horse is already eligible for.
o Races are ordered under the headings of ‘Scheduled Races’, ‘Races Requested for this Horse’, ‘Races Requested by Others’, ‘Races not yet Requested’.
o Under ‘Races Requested by Others’ click on the checkbox or MATCH button to select the race.
o Under ‘Races not yet Requested’ click on the checkbox or REQUEST button to select the race.
o Clicking on the MATCH or REQUEST buttons refreshes the page and you don’t go through the basket in entering the horse. The number of runners (including yours in brackets) is updated and the race will move to the ‘Races Requested for this horse’ section.
o Once matched or requested, you may REMOVE the request for the horse prior to the race being scheduled.
o Only Entering Scheduled Races are confirmed through the basket.

Race details for all races that have not been scheduled:
o Requesting, matching and removing works the same as on the Enter Races page, thus refreshing the page and does not go through the basket.

Conditions for the race to be scheduled:
o The race is scheduled after the 3rd eligible horse has been added.
o The system will look over the next 4 days to find the requested going, allocate a track, date and time to schedule the race.
o For Graded races, the system looks 24hrs ahead from the time that conditions are met and works towards midnight looking for an available time slot. If there is no slot available, it starts working backwards, in which case a Graded race request could be scheduled in less than 24hrs.
o The same applies for Rated races except it starts 12hrs ahead of the time that conditions are met.
If the going is not available tomorrow it looks at the remaining days where goings have been declared.
o The entry fee is deducted from the participating stables’ accounts when the race is scheduled.
o Eligibility:
  - The ‘3 Stable’ rule applies - At least 3 eligible horses from 3 different stables are needed.
  - Eligibility includes 3 different stables, sufficient credits to pay for the entry, horse is active and not racing on the day the race is to be scheduled.
  - There may therefore be a higher number of horses who have matched the race but it is not scheduled as there are not at least 3 eligible horses.
  - Current racing rules apply, ie. a horse may race in 1 stakes race and 3 rated races a day.
o If a horse in a requested race becomes pending before the race is scheduled, the horse will be removed from the requested race.

Once a Requested Race is scheduled:
o All other requested races for that horse will be removed.

Last Season's Final

This Season's Contenders

If you haven't heard of Darley Arabian then you have been on a different virtual planet for the last two seasons. All the superlatives have been said before now so I won't bore you all with how good he is. That's obvious! What isn't obvious to you all is despite all the races, he has only ever run on dirt on three occasions over the distance this final will be run. Ok, so he won two from three and finished last of fourteen in the other so I guess the trip and surface will pose no issue for the colt. What is interesting is that his two wins have come on muddy, so will fast going prove a chink in the armour or was that a blip, put down to a bad training effort by his yard. If you look a little deeper, you will also find that he has avoided 1200m races in preference of a further distance and although he will go off a hot favourite, there are suspicisions that he can be beat and with his attention focussed on The Derby, he will not be run at optimum fitness which may also open the door for a lesser type to spring a championship surprise. Hot favourite or also ran? Obviously still a hot favourite!

Moletown's Rating :

Trainer : Liveoak Stables

More often than not, Earl has also avoided the 1200m trip, only running the distance three times in his career. He has never recorded a win at the trip and that may suggest he is not the force some may think he is when it comes to a shorter sprint distance. When you look at all the form, his efforts have been exceptional on a dirt track. Over half his career wins have come on the surface, so it is obvious he has no issue with the underfoot conditions. He too will be focussed for the showpiece of the festival and I think his trainer will excuse him somewhat in this race if he fails to deliver in preference of victory in The Derby. On a personal note, I think he has solid claims in the race and this may be controversial to suggest but I don't consider him a winner in this race, regardless of how good he is. Reputation may be enough for some but hard facts will always stand up. He has never won at the trip and I don't think he will now. Is he out of the race completely? I would be daft to even think that! He will be there abouts in most fields.

Moletown's Rating :

Horse : Toxic Armada
Trainer : Stardust Racing

Toxic Armada has been as busy a horse as any of the two that topped the series standings. His form card reads well and it must be frustrating for the trainer to have so many races in his history headed by either Arabian or Earl. He was third behind Silver sprinter in last season's juvenile spint final and that form must not be dismissed in his challenge here. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem much hope in him repeating that performance in this race. His efforts on a dirt track are sub-standard and the distance will be on the short side for him. Despite a very good qualifying campaign, he will be found out in the final and will have to run a magnificent race, well above his ability to get anywhere near at the finish.

Moletown's Rating :

Horse : Wizzimo

Runner-up in the sprint final last term and looking to run another big race is Wizzimo. The trip last season may have been right up his street but I think the 1200m of this final will be less than perfect. His wins are still low which would suggest he will have a prolonged challenge career beyond his three-year-old campaign and he may be best suited to an extended distance and may find this trip, like Toxic Armada, a little too hot. He does have winning form over 1200m but his lack of form in qualifier's run over the distance could suggest that he isn't in the upper realms of quality in respect to the trip. That said, there is no doubt he has ability over further and he is probably the yard's best hope in this race.

Moletown's Rating :

Horse : King Kenny D
Trainer : Kopites

King Kenny D is held in the highest regard by his trainer and he has shouted all season about how he thinks the horse is a God, just like his namesake. We all know how easy it is for a scouser to get carried away, but maybe on this occassion he might be right and who am I to suggest that King Kenny D cannot beat the best. After all, he has done it before and has run some of the best in the business, close this season. I would be a little concerned for his chances iof the ground was to come up muddy but on a fast track, if settled well could spring a surprise. If the big two slip up then King Kenny D may be the one to capitalise. All has to be right on the night for the colt but he is by no means an outsider, call him a lively each-way bet.

Moletown's Rating :

Horse : Star Watch

Star Watch's performances over a 1200m distance have been far from exhilarating. He has mainly contested his career over 1400m, with the odd winning run at 1600m, two from two. His chances in this race look bleak from the off, if his form line is anything to go by and he may struggle to go the pace. There is not enough evidence to suggest that this race will suit him and therefore he can easily be overlooked.

Moletown's Rating :

Horse : Jose Mourinho
Trainer : Cotton Castle

1400m, 1600m, 2200m are all distances that Jose Mourinho has won at. Is he the special one..?? ....err, when it comes to 1200m....no! A below par effort down the field is his only real line of solid form at the trip and like so many before him, it appears that he too will also find this a stern test of his ability. It's difficult to see him figuring in the race. His best efforts are likely to come over a distance a little further.

Moletown's Rating :

Horse : Shadow Bullet
Trainer : Shadow Lodge

Shadow Lodge's 1200m runner, Shadow Bullet is one of a few in the race who will enjoy the trip but will probably still need to find a bit if he is to compete in this, despite nine of his fifteen wins coming on the surface. He is a very consistent performer in level weight races and WFA and has some very tasty form to read. However, his qualifying races haven't really been up to much and he may still struggle with classy runners all around him. A big run is certainly not beyond him but it would have to be his personal best if he is to stand toe to toe with some of these.

Moletown's Rating :

Horse : Sanitarium
Trainer : Shotgun Mike

£100 at auction, thirteen races later and over £500 in prize money! Business as usual in the champion's yard. If anyone can get the best out of this horse, Micke can. He is the only horse representing the colours in this final and if his form is anything to go by, a fast going will be the order of the day for any chance he has. It is going to be a tough ask but a good draw and favourable random and he could run a big race. He has only one win to his name over the distance, a novice juvenile that cracked his maiden. He is probably a long shot in the race but with the green army in full swing, any final's runner could turn the form book on its head.

Moletown's Rating :

Horse : Terra Sky

Terra Sky is something of a 1000m specialist, evident by his 100% domination of the series qualifiers over the trip. His 1200m form is nothing of note and he may find that he is gasping for air inside the final 200m. It is very hard to make a case for his chance in this final but it would probably have been a different story if they decided to move the line further up the final straight. I expect this one to set the pace, only to be swamped down the home straight.

Moletown's Rating :

Trainer : Daztron

Silver Sprinter may come into this final as the one who beat them all last term but this race is a different kettle of fish for the grey. His total dislike to dirt will ultimately prove his downfall. He has never won on the surface and in qualifying could only manage to beat two home in his solitary race on a muddy surface. I'm afraid to say that it won't be a repeat of last season's magnificent victory for the horse and connections.

Moletown's Rating :

Shankley Shankley is an 1800m specialist who has shown glimpses of ability over 1400m and 1600m. The Nunthorpe Final will be his first ever race over 1200m and as his original master, I can categorically state that he won't be winning this one! He still remains a horse I will follow for the rest of his career as I never wanted to sell him in the first place, circumstance dictated that.

Moletown's Rating :

Horse : Mokoko
Trainer : Cotton Castle

Mokoko has been consistent enough in lesser company over the trip but is another who will find this race a difficult proposition. He has never won on dirt at 1200m and there is no reason to suggest that he will change that statistic here. Easily opposed.

Moletown's Rating :

Trainer : Holmang Horses

If there are any horses that can break the dominance of the top pairing of Darley Arabian and Gentleman Earl, then Kai Loves Natusik is probably one to consider. He is capable of big run if the going comes muddy. In fairness, it will be difficult for any horse to beat the best two colts of their generation, even if they are not totally wound up for this race. Holmang Horse will have this one spot on and his recent effort that saw him break into this final, if repeated, will see him go close. He is of similar mould to King Kenny D and either of these two will be waiting in the wings to pounce on any error. He has solid claims for a place and maybe just maybe....!!
