Last Season's Final

This Season's Contenders

Horse : Shes My Girl
Trainer : Flying Fillies

Shes My Girl will put her 100% record in challenge finals on the line in this seasons Nunthorpe. Last years juvenile sprint champion will be looking to continue her winning streak but before we get carried away and say she is a foregone conclusion to win the race, we better look at a few statistics. Of her sixty odd races, she has only ever competed over the final trip of 1200m on seven occasions, only out of the frame in two. You may think that this is good form but she has never won at the trip and has twice come unstuck against Mapperley Heights in qualifiers on dirt, fast and muddy. If all goes right on the day, then there is a possibility that she could win but for me, she doesn't come into this race as favourite. It would be a fitting way to finally get the better of Mapperley Heights, when it means the most, though I am not sure. She has obvious claims but may just find one too good.

Nine of her twelve wins have come over the trip, so you could consider her as something of a specialist. She has only been out of the frame twice in the highest company at the trip, on dirt, which bodes well for her chances here. On paper she has the beating of ante post favourite, Shes My Girl, on a dirt track, so it is fair to say that if her race preparation goes to plan it will be difficult to see that form turn around. The going will not pose any threat to her challenge and a big run is expected. It is important that she gets a good draw to boost her claim and if so, expect her in the shake up.

It is not clear that Kung Fu Kimmie enjoys this trip. Only four runs to her name and a dramatic turn around in form is needed to cast the likes of Mapperley Heights and Shes My Girl aside. She is by no means out of this race and a good random could see her make the frame. However, I think her future lies in the 4-7YO series over 1400m and 1600m, so it is going to be a difficult task for her to win this race. Everything would need to fall into place on the day.

Norse Valkyrie will enjoy The Oaks more than she will enjoy this race. Her form over 1200m is not bad, in fact it's quite good on paper but it doesn't set alarm bells ringing to suggest she can win this. Four races over the distance have yet to yield any victory and there is not a lot to suggest that things will differ here. It's not beyond her to run into a place but when it comes to winning, she will face an almighty battle to head some of these.

Horse : Sakhmet
Trainer : Victor Consortio

I really like Sakhmet! There is not a lot to choose between her and Mapperley Heights on the formbook but I will edge for the Victor Consortio runner to pull out all the stops when they go to post. Her auction price of £850 looks a snip after her fourteen races so far and I fully expect to see a coiled spring, ready to unleash. Everything points to a sound effort and given the run of the race, she will be an extremely difficult proposition to beat. Two challenge finals in the past have seen her run into a place, maybe this time round it is her chance to shine.

Trainer : Daltons Donkeys

Lady Of The Race seems better suited to an extended 1400m and may find the pace a little too swift for her liking in this final. She is one of a few who, if all goes right on the night, can run into a place but it could be a step too far to suggest that she has the credentials to win this race. Nevertheless, Daltons Donkeys will be hoping she puts in a 100% performance and a cash-in, in the race, is possibility with her talent. Her sale from the Flying Fillies yard will be a bitter pill to swallow if she is to be there ahead of Shes My Girl but I just don't see that happening.

Colin's Sister will have absolutely no problem with the trip and has form to back up her claim on both goings. My only concern with the horse is whether she can turn the tables with a few of this field. It's not a task beyond her capabilities and she should run a big race. Whether it is a winning run is the all important question and based on previous efforts she may find it a tad too difficult. Saying that, I cannot dismiss her on a whim. She is a quality animal and I wouldn't be surprised to see her ruffle a few feathers.

Moletown's Rating :

Trainer : She Devil

She Devil's, Bright Horizon, seems more comfortable on a 1400/1600m trip and this race may just catch her tapped for toe. Her best chance will rely far too much on a good draw and random and she will probably need this to back up her claim. There are snippets of form that could suggest she is capable but overall it is conceivable that she will struggle to go with some of these.

Trainer : Shotgun Mike

Psycho Sonic Amy has done her best running in qualifiers over a further trip and may find this sharp 1200m a little short to produce her best. She is likely to require fast ground if she is to have any chance of sustaining her effort. I think she is below a few of these in terms of quality and I am guessing that she is down her trainers list of prospective champions. That said, the champion trainer loves being the underdog in a race and this is a prime example of that. I just do not see her making an impression in the race, egg on my face time?

Horse : This Is War
Trainer : Stable 76

A declaration of war is serious matter in any walk of life. Stable 76's namesake is not exactly one you would love to have beside you in the trenches in this race. I like the name, it has a forceful ring to it but unfortunately I do not like her chances in this race. Unless I have missed something in her form, it is going to be a very tall order to mastermind a strategy against these enemies. The white flag may be raised from the off.

Moletown's Rating :

Trainer : Unconte Stable

Grace Of The Gods comes into this final with a lot to prove. She has been an excellent auction acquisition for the Unconte Stable, often racing with consistency and proving a bit of a money spinner for the yard, more than paying her way and anything she does from her on in to her retirement will be total profit. It's difficult to see her winning this race but a good effort may see her sneak a place.

Moletown's Rating :

Horse : Hyper Go Go
Trainer : Hodge House

Hodge House's, Hyper Go Go has done all her best running on a dirt track and has winning form at 1400m. She has been a good servant for the yard but this race see's her a little out of her depth. She has never won over the trip on dirt and things are not likely to change in this race. Her best efforts on the day could see her run well but I am positive that we will not see her name etched in Nunthorpe history. An uphill battle lies in wait.

Horse : Coco Chanel
Trainer : Cotton Castle

It is exceptionally difficult to get excited about Coco Chanel when she lines up to tackle this opposition. Her efforts this season in qualifying races have been poor, failing to make the frame in seven attempts. For me, she will struggle from stalls open and gets my vote to be the last horse home. Easily opposed.

Moletown's Rating :

She has run and won a lot of races in her career, fifteen wins in thirty-four runs. Her ability has seen her well in level weights and WFA races this term and her transfer to the Sky Castle Stable at auction for a low price, has produced a tidy profit. I think she is a little below a good few in the race and dirt may not be her specialist subject. She only just managed to get into the final ahead of Colonel Sterling's, Sudden Strike, in the last qualifier of the season and could easily have been demoted to the consolation race. But, she is here and although I don't think she has much hope in the race, she could easily run above expectations over a trip she is clearly at home with.
