Championship Series Standings

The last qualifier of the monthly series took place over England's staying trip of 2850m. After a hard fought series, everything rested on this race, with valuable points on offer, a place in the final could be won or lost. The weather had remained dry and the ground was running on the firm side. A full field went to post with many of the runners still uncertain of their final's destiny, so in the hands of their jockey, their fate would unravel. The trainer could do no more than to prepare their horse to the best of their ability. So who would be making the trip to contest Sunday's final? The starter let them go!

Tie The Knot was having his second run in the series, having previously run down the field over the trip behind Gallipoli Prince a couple of weeks earlier. The Sky Castle colt was immediate from the stalls and forged an early lead. Interestingly, the colt has not competed over a trip less than today's distance which could be significant as the final is to run over the shorter classic distance of 2400m. Maybe the colt will find that trip a little short by the evidence of his previous runs. Nevertheless, 2850m suits the horse and his quick exit had already seen him open up on his rivals to the best part of two lengths. Gallipoli Prince looked assured of his place in the final and this one followed the leader for the opening 600m, running without the aid of alumites. His trainer was obviously concerned that he didn't add any more weight to the penalty he will already carry in Sunday's showcase.

Hitting the first turn, Who Killed Bambi was in pursuit of the leader but this horses run flattered to deceive as the colt was eventually going to finish a distance last to the winner. Dubai Spirit is another who is clearly suited by a marathon trip and the Dalton Donkeys runner paved a nice pitch against the rails about four lengths fourth. Herminator had remained covered up for most of the opening 1400m and was last coming off the first turn but the eventual winner of the race would put most of his running in during the second half of the race. Kieran Doyle is one of those jock's that has the knack of knowing just how much horse is beneath him and when asked a question, the horse generally responds. All his horsemanship knowhow would be utilised in this race to come with a well timed run to land the spoils. Priego De Cordoba had run Emprise To Avalon to within a length in the opening monthly final of the season and is no stranger to top class opposition. This was his ninth run at the highest level. Heinz Huber had to take a strong early hold on the horse and eventually settled him nicely in the chasing pack at halfway.

The eight furlong stretch down the far side of the track before making the turn for home had seen the leader open up a three, four or even five length lead over the chasing pack, swinging along. It was this portion of the race that saw Herminator cruise up between runners to see more daylight and grab a handy pitch in second place in good sight of the leader. Priego De Cordoba and jockey, fully aware of the colts move had followed him through and now sat fourth behind the wide running and stable mate to the leader Efficiente. The race began in earnest entering the final third as they made the turn for home. The midfield pack closed up as the jockey's staked their claim to hold the best possible position entering the straight. Herminator still closed on the leader and was looking dangerous. Tie The Knot still went well in front but had the jockey let him go off too fast? The horse was running his race and the Frenchman showed no concern in the saddle and was happy to dictate from the start.

As they levelled into the straight, Dubai Spirit and Herminator travelled well and a little reign was let out on the pair. The latter of the two looked the more likely to pose a threat to the leader as when asked to quicken he stepped up a gear with more efficiency than his adversary to his left. Efficiente was widest of all and had run the race twice over coming into the straight and to even be in the position he held was credit to his jockey, Tom Kerr. Alas, the colt ran out of stamina up the straight and finished down the field in tenth place at the line. Approaching four out, Herminator was asked to lengthen and he did just that with the mould of a sprinter, rather than a stayer, he injected a turn of foot and strode to the front. Dubai Spirit and Priego De Cordoba were also looking to swamp the long time leader, Tie The Knot but credit where credit is due, the Sky Castle Stable runner kept up a gallop to the line to earn a very respectable second place. In the battle for third and fourth, Priego De Cordoba got the better of Dubai Spirit close home.

Licensed to thrill, International Spy wins

International Spy Divine Diva Stables Kieran Doyle

Championship Series Standings

International Spy made good of favourable conditions to land the spoils in this qualifying race. Having previously recorded a best placed fourth in a past qualifier, the Divine Diva Stables finally go their reward when their charge nailed a run to the line. It was a massive turnaround on the previous form book with the second, Maroon Spirit, who had him beat by over five lengths bak in August. Admittedly that was on a yielding surface which the winner is not too keen on. Nevertheless it was an encouraging sight for his owner to see him burst to the front and strike a winning blow. Maroon Spirit had tried to make all in under the guidance of Jacques Girard but stamina was the key on the run to the line and the Price Racing representative had gone off in a blaze and possibly run himself to the ground early and was treading water inside the last. At the halfway point there was seven lengths back to the nearest horse and despite a brave effort to make all there was little in the tank at the line.

The winner, International Spy had tracked when settled early and was called upon for an effort swinging off the turn. Paving a path through the middle of the field he was soon in contention and reeling the leader in with every stride. Randwick had travelled wide throughout and also looked dangerous down the straight. By the 300m marker the leader faltered and International Spy swooped past and was driven all out to the line. The runner-up, Maroon Spirit was as game as they come when holding off the late challenge of the Daltons Donkeys runner, Rhapsody Of Fire. Entering the straight the colt was in last place and came from another county inside the final 400m to challenge the leaders. A little closer to the fore may have seen this one strike on another day but on this occasion, a creditable third place. Randwick stayed on at the same pace down the final stretch to grab the final placing. Hari Harian, Tokii Dokii, Soulquake System and Napoleonic Wars all bagged their fourth run in the series in this race to meet the eligibilty criteria. El Legendario is out in front with forty-two points from his six races, Dusk Til Dawn sits second, apoint behind.

Poetic Yesterday stays on to beat Rose Of England

Poetic Yesterday Shotgun Mike Jacques Girard

Championship Series Standings

A select field of five runners went to post to contest a marathon distance of 3200m in this St Leger Qualifier. With such emphasis on stamina, this specialist distance is not for the weak hearted and lungs of steel are required to see the trip out. Poetic Yesterday and Rose Of England entertained the masses with an epic struggle to the line. Both horses showing stamina and a desire to win, right to the death. The front running display of Poetic Yesterday was a masterful effort by Jacques Girard. Knowing when to kick and when to hold back enough to get to the line is key and any aspiring young virtual jockey should take note. Rose Of England had looked the danger and came with a timely effort in the hands of Wayne Bailey, only to be scuppered at the death by a horse who had kept a little in reserve. The winning distance just under a length.

Rose Of England came out of her fourth race unscathed and can now concentrate on amassing a tally of points worthy of a shot at the title. Fourteen points puts her tied for fifth place on the overall leader board with Wicked Wench and Black Or White. The win pushes Poetic Yesterday up into tied third place as she sits pretty after five race appearances on nineteen, alongside Devil's Daughter from Butlers Yard. Overall leader with twenty-seven points is Xtreme Diva. The classy filly has a six point advantage on second placed Majestic Love who hails from the Team Johansson yard.

Speech Of Silence mutes Queen Of Egypt's charge

Speech Of Silence Winning Post Jacques Girard LBW
Queen Of Egypt Butlers Yard Wayne Bailey 0.65
Burkes Monstress Burkveen Racing Charlie Saxon 1.12
Surrounde Sky Castle Stables Sergio Ramirez 1.50

Championship Series Standings

In the opening qualifier of the season (August 3rd 2010), Butlers Yard sent his charge Queen Of Egypt to tackle the 2200m at England and duly recorded a gallant victory over her rivals. On that day the going was soft and under the guidance of Kieran Doyle she was booted to a half length success over Classic Insight. The filly is no stranger to success at the track and was looking to repeat the feat in this race, albeit on faster ground. With all the recent dry and sunny spells, the ground was running firm. Four of her adversaries on that day were again in opposition and prior to the off it looked a very tasty race indeed. With little to choose between them in the weights, tactics were to play a major part in the outcome of the race. On the off, the bookies had Her Royal Majesty a slight favourite. Over the far side of the track the runners circled and entered the stalls, the starter raised his flag, and they were off.

Queen Of Egypt was immediately prominent at the head of affairs. Wayne Bailey taking the ride after Kieran Doyle had decided that he would ride Flowery Twats for the Winning Post stable and it was she who ran upsides Queen Of Egypt early doors. The field jostled for position behind the front pair hitting the 1800m marker with Burkes Monstress just gaining the upper hand in the center of the chasing pack. Flowery Twats had forged a path from her early wide position and closed in nearer the rail, a half length behind the lead horse. Eventual winner of the race, Speech Of Silence, settled near the back and it soon became evident that Flowery Twats was the stables second string in the race and would act as a thorn in Queen Of Egypt's side with instructions to press the horse to her limits. Squeezed for room off the first turn and looking a bit uncomfortable, the usual front running style of Queen Of Egypt was under scrutiny all the time by Flowery Twats and Kieran Doyle and the horse (Queen Of Egypt) seemed to falter a little, dropping the pace. At this juncture, Burkes Monstress took full advantage and hit the front on the outer of lightly race campaigner Queen Alex.

Approaching halfway and the Burkveen Racing filly had extended her opportunist lead to over three lengths, Queen Of Egypt had shaken off Flowery Twats, who, like a magnet was determined to stick to her for the first half of the race. The Butlers Yard filly now saw daylight again and set off in pursuit of the leader. Speech Of Silence was clearly handling the ground with gusto and had cruised through the middle of the pack to take closer order, Jacques Girard keeping a tight reign on the filly. It was at the mid point of the race that the tactical wareness of the Winning Post yard came into play. The plan seemed to be unravelling nicely, as Speech Of Silence was allowed to draw alongside Queen Of Egypt and set off in pursuit of Burkes Monstress. With plenty of horse beneath him, Jacques Girard came with a double handful down the staright and it looked a matter of time before he let a little reign loose. Flowery Twats had again drawn alongside Queen Of Egypt and Wayne Bailey must have got sick of the sight of the horse as he tried to hustle his mount clear of the leech. Back in the field a few were coming under pressure and asked for their effort, including Oaks winner, Her Royal Majesty.

As they hit the four hundred metre marker, the jockey said go on Speech Of Silence and the response was instant. Burkes Monstress was starting to look a little jaded in front under a driving ride by Charlie Saxon. The jockey was trying hard to keep the horse on a level but was getting the desire effect for his efforts as the horse stayed on, albeit at the one pace. The Sky Castle Stables filly, Surrounde had been very quiet during the race and for the most part had been a spectator but entering the final three hundred, she was eating up the ground on the leaders, wide. With every stride she gained and looked as though she may be coming with a winning run but the front pair looked strong. Jacques Girard sat pretty aboard Speech Of Silence and was all over the winner. As much as the jockey tried, Wayne Bailey just couldn't compete with the winner inside the final 200m and Speech Of Silence took the race on the bridle. A very impressive display by the four year old. Queen Of Egypt settled for second place in a hard fought battle which was clearly won using sensible tactics. Burkes Monstress kept going to the line, holding off the late charge of Surrounde in fourth place.

All four of the placed horses in this race have earned the right to compete in the seasons finale. Surrounde, despite not winning a qualifier in this series has opened up a three point lead over race runner-up Queen Of Egypt with race winner, Speech Of Silence a further five points behind. The two pound allowance that Surrounde will get if she remains on this weight will be vital to her chances of lifting the title. As we near the halfay point of the season and horses hunt those valuable qualifying points, it would be fair to say that a lot of change is expected on the leader board and with sixty-seven horses in the mix so far the Queen Elizabeth is living up to it's name and the final will be a right royal affair.

Saxon boots Awaleen to cheeky victory

Asateerul Awaleen Shotgun Mike Charlie Saxon

Championship Series Standings

Asateerul Awaleen produced a very impressive last to first victory in this evening's qualifier. The colt looked detached at halfway as stable mate and pace setter, Majestic Sinner took them along. The Shotgun Mike charge in this race was made up of three, the other horse in the mix was Krakatoa Storm who had settled in midfield. Entering the straight, the winner had a dream run up the inner and his sights firmly set on long time leader Majestic Sinner. What looked like a sea of green at the head of affairs was only interrupted by the blue colours of aptly named long distance runner, Sebastian Coe. The Burkveen Racing colt had come to spoil the party and nearly went home with the prize after leading up wide inside the final two hundred metres. However, Asateerul Awaleen was too strong for them all on the run to the line, eventually gaining the upper-hand and scoring by just over a half length. Sebastian Coe came home second ahead of the remaining Shotgun Mike pair of Krakatoa Storm and pace maker Majestic Sinner.

The win for Asateerul Awaleen takes the colt into twenty-third place in the standings. However the horse has not yet gained the necessary four run eligibility so cannot yet consider himself a final's runner. The overall leader this term is The Seeker and despite a poor effort in this race, Stable 76 see the colt with a massive ten point lead over his nearest rival, Sebastian Coe who as leaped above stable mate Shotguns Dream who in turn didn't have one of his better runs today. Fourteen runners have met the four race criteria but a whole host of horse lie in wait on three runs and major changes are in store during the coming weeks as many of the runners on three runs have amassed more points than those who sit in the top fourteen berths to date.

Regency Blaze's trail to success

Regency Blaze Miami Vice Jacques Girard

Championship Series Standings

Regency Blaze came with a late rattle to score victory over long time leader Diamond Class. The Miami Vice filly has all the makings of a champion and recorded her first success at the highest level. Sakura Diva followed the winner all the way up the final straight and also got the better of Diamond Class, who can feel a little hard done by after doing all the hard work during the race. Sakura Diva was a recently claimed horse from the Divine Diva Stables and created something of a bidding frenzy when twenty-five claims were put on her head. Ditch Heath was the lucky winner of the horse and on the evidence of this run and her previous form has landed himself a bargain. With only one race remaining in the series before Sunday's final, Burkveen Racing has two horses at the head of the table. Lightning Monster has a one point advantage over Peppes Pizza. Eyes Of Medusa, Elisabeth Taylor and Goddess Of Heaven all look sure to be present in the final but a lot of trainers will have a close eye on the competition as their chance of a run looks under threat.

Barnes reckons that Prince has come of age following his Classic Challenge Qualifier!

Prince Comes Of Age In Classic Challenge Qualifier

The juvenile divisions are really starting to hot up and this weekend produced some top quality racing from the newest generation of virtual equine athletes to hit the computer generated turf and dirt tracks at RaceClubs.com.

In only six career starts to date, Gallipoli Prince, owned by Gissys Nags had already managed to win a Monthly League Challenge Qualifier and had also accomplished third and second place finishes in both a classic qualifier and a stayers qualifier. The bay colt was now looking to add a Classic Challenge Qualifier Juvenile victory to an already impressive resumé.

Gallipoli Prince wins Classic Challenge Qualifier Juvenile Colts.

Amongst the opposition was Sky Castle Stables' Monthly League Challenge Qualifier winner, Veandercrosse and Divine Diva Stables' Kamikraziee. This bay colt held perhaps the strongest form of all, bidding here for a third classic qualifier win in his fourth attempt.Gallipoli Prince was too strong for these and all others on this occasion though and he ran out a convincing winner under Wayne Bailey. Kopites' last time out stayers handicap winner, Splodgenessabound was second and Castle Crooks Farm's gray colt, Nicolaus Silver finished third.

The Classic Challenge Qualifier Juvenile Fillies saw Westdene Stables' remarkable gray filly, Luscious, extend her unbeaten record to three wins from three career starts, adding this event to the Stayers Challenge Qualifier Juvenile Fillies she won previously. She won with plenty in hand from Ditch Heath's Sakura Diva. She Devil's She Will Survive, a previous classic qualifier winner, finished third, making the winner look very handy indeed.

The standings for the colts' final for this event now shows Kamikraziee leading the way three points ahead of Gallipoli Prince. Splodgenessabound is a further two points behind in third place. The standings for the fillies equivalent, at this early stage, shows She Will Survive on her own out in front with sixteen points so far. Luscious scores six points for this win.

Enter The Wu Tang wins Stayers Challenge Qualifier Juvenile Fillies.

The Stayers Challenge Qualifier Juvenile Fillies looked a tight affair on paper with several of the runners either having won or been placed in previous qualifiers, including both stayers and classic distances. Enter The Wu Tang, owned by shotgun_mike, had previously run third in a classic qualifier and looked convincing in winning here over this extra distance. The chestnut filly was winning for the second time in five attempts, Sergio Ramirez taking the ride this time. She was a little more than a half length too good for Team Johansson's Majestic Indiana with Divine Diva Stables' Island Diva taking third place.

The colts' division resulted in a narrow victory for Castle Crooks Farm's Dark Psychedelic. The bay colt had previously won a Monthly League Challenge Qualifier over this distance and seems to relish this 3200m extreme trip. Kopites' Who Killed Bambi and Glenloch's Hercule Poirot were the two to follow him home.

It is very early in the day to be looking towards the finals for these juvenile events with many useful two year olds no doubt still waiting to make their debuts but She Devil's She Will Survive currently heads Luscious and Enter The Wu Tang in the standings for the fillies while the colts standings show Who Killed Bambi up top ahead of Divine Diva Stables' Grand Samurai and Fanfield's Red Carra.
