H2H Period
Wednesday 1st September - Tuesday 28th September

The inaugural trainer "Head 2 Head" will commence tomorrow where the winning trainer will collect $50 bonus credits for their efforts during the specified challenge dates. Everyday each of our two participants will be followed and each week their stable performance will be reported in a weekly article. At the end of the period the community will be presented with a final article which will include a poll and YOU, the community will register your vote as to which trainer will receive the $50 prize. The trainer which receives the highest vote will win the challenge.

The Tale Of The Tape

Tocohnas started his RaceClubs.com career back in 2007 and will soon celebrate his three year anniversary on October 6th 2010. From across the pond he has managed to build quite a mixture of horses in his stable and tends to race at most levels of races. His biggest win to date has come in a Super 3s Cup when Cherry On Top broke the tape netting the trainer a prize of £101.84. He has dipped into the challenge arena but has yet to record a qualifier or championship win. He has amassed 1245 runs and collected over £4500 in win and place money. There have been a total of 169 winners to his name (excluding free races) and his average return to race ran is £3.63. He is close to celebrating his 100th winner in the graded arena.

Thesidleyspanker may only have been a member of RaceClubs.com for under a year but he has quickly adapted to the game, especially within the rated race spectrum. The majority of his win and place money has been from his success in these races. His biggest win to date has come from his 3YO G2 colt Tryaspank who was successful when winning a level weight race in July 2010. He has a stable may be brim full of G2 and G3 rated runners but he is not shy to race them in graded stakes either, noticeable by his recent achievement of hitting the magic 100th winner. Furthermore, the stable recently hit his 200th rated race winner. After 2542 runs (excluding free races) his prize money is in the realms of £4200 which equates to an average return of £1.66 per race.

Seven Simple Questions

Where are you and your stable based?

Tocohnas...In the United States which I really don't want to admit.

Thesidleyspanker...I am based in Bexhill-On-Sea which is on the south coast of England in East Sussex. The stable name comes from a place nearby where I was born.

How many horses do you have actively racing?

Tocohnas...About 50 right now which I believe is the most horses I have ever owned.

Thesidleyspanker...There are about 35 horses in my stable that are currently active mostly grade 2 and grade 3 though I have 8 grade 1 horses awaiting the elusive "capped" races.

Which race holds fond memories for you?

Tocohnas...My favourite race at this time is a very recent race called the Nunthorpe WFA. I bought Wife Trouble from Black Death in the auction and she did not quite get fit as I wanted her for this race. I was only able to get her to 94% fitness but she won that race anyway and against some of the best horses in this game. I was thrilled and this race also replaced Goldenheels as the biggest win ever for my stable. There is nothing like having a horse that can win anytime you send it out to race.

Thesidleyspanker...My favourite virtual race so far was when I won my first early bird race with Spanksie at 12-1 mainly because I had money on it. My favourite race in the real world is the Cheltenham Gold Cup and I look forward to the Cheltenham Festival every March.

What are your aspirations as a trainer?

Tocohnas...To be like Shotgun Mike of course

Thesidleyspanker...Like most who play this game, pulling a monster and making lots of money would be nice but unlikely. To be honest if I never race in the challenge series it doesn't bother me. Up until this season I was happy running in G2 and G3 races but these don’t appear to be too healthy at the moment so my main target is to find 10 races a day to run in. If I can finish in the top ten on the leader boards this season in the grades I race in, I will be happy!

Which trainer/trainer's do you admire the most?

Tocohnas...Easy one to answer. Moletown. Supporting the game by sponsoring races, fighting for the changes that would make this game better and doing it with professionalism, I always appreciate someone who is passionate about things in their life and Moletown is definitely that. (Moletown blushes at this answer!) I also have much admiration for Shotgun Mike as he is the current mark of a great trainer. He averages a whopping $17 per race run and finishes in the money around 60% of the time with 20% being winners. That is amazing but what amazes me most is his ability to sit horses with great talent so they will be ready to win a final at age 5, when the going finally suits that horse. I don't think I could sit a horse with that much talent for that long but that is what makes Mike so great.

Thesidleyspanker...The type of player that I admire most is the one that put the effort in and do their own legwork and formulate their own strategies. Too many players rely on the charts and the views of others (that are not always correct) on the forums and then wonder why they struggle when they don’t really understand how the game works. Two stables I like that spring to mind are Westfield Gardens and Chypmunk but there are lots more.

Which horse do you regard as your favourite?

Tocohnas...My current favourite horse is Misty May. She is still a maiden but she is the best horse I have ever owned and I got her from the sales ring instead of the auction. I am very excited about her career but I still am not sure which direction to go with her. No doubt what Mike would do but I don't think I can do that. I love to race so Misty May will most likely never see a finals or consolation for that matter.

Thesidleyspanker...My favourite virtual horse has to be Norse Valkyrie who I sold in auction to Castle Crooks Farm and has allowed me to make a small profit in my first year in this game. It's the only horse I follow in the challenge races and I will be cheering her on this season. In the real world my favourite horse is "See The Stars" as I backed it at 20-1 to win The Derby and 12-1 to win The 2000 Guineas.

How would you summarise your competition?

Tocohnas...Thesidleyspanker loves rated races and seems to focus on that aspect for the money part. This trainer has the 8th most runs this season of any trainer and all with only around 60 horses. Some trainers have several hundred horses and don't race that often. This doesn't count free races of course and of the 274 runs so far this month, 243 of them were rated races. Thesidleyspanker also has the most wins in rated races of any other trainer and by quite a bit. Strollers have more rated runs than Thesidleyspanker yet far fewer wins. I am 4th on the list of winners in rated races and I have about half as many wins so I would call "Thesidleyspanker" the king rated racing.

Thesidleyspanker...I don’t want to appear arrogant but I don't put much importance in keeping an eye on the competition. All of my effort in this game is training and racing my horses. I like racing and I like racing against the better horses in their grade so never bother about trying to avoid certain horses. The only information I get on other stables is what is put up on the forums so there must be many stables I know nothing about.

I think you'll agree that we have one hell of a match-up in store this month. Good luck to you both. The community will be watching every move you make this month!
