Who won the $600 in the Cambridgeshire Claimers on Raceclubs.com?

Winners in the Cambridgeshire Claimer Competition

The Race Programmer decided to have some fun with his sponsorship budget by offering 6 X £63.00 prizes for the trainers that either claimed or sold a horse in last week’s Cambridgeshire Claimers. There was a hitch because the horses had to be claimed before they could be entered into a lucky draw, so all horses had to be more than just raceable- they had to be claimable too!

Three colts and three fillies were randomly selected before being entered into a second draw so that either their previous or current owner could win the £63.00 prize. We are pleased to announce the winners of the Cambridgeshire Claimers competition.

Trainers that won £63.00 for claiming a horse:
Aceface (Skyhooks (AUS))
Bottle Top Stud (Reporter)
Glenloch (Stacee Jaxx)

Trainers that won £63.00 for selling a horse:
Trawlers (Blind Side)
Royston (Brewed Scullet)
Pkr player (Profitable G1)

The RP would like to thank all trainers for competing in the Cambridgeshire Claimers, and congratulate all the winners!

What can your horses win in the Pennsylvania Derby?

The Pennsylvania Derby is a race for thoroughbred horses run at Parx Racing and Casino (formerly known as Keystone Race Track, then from 1986 through 2010 as Philadelphia Park) each year. The track's premiere event is open to horses, age three, willing to race 1.125 miles (1.811 km) (9 furlongs) on the dirt and as of 2007, offers a purse of $1 million.

The Pennsylvania Derby began on Memorial Day in 1979 and achieved Graded status in 1981. From 1990 until 2009, with the exception of 2006 due to extensive renovations, the race was held on Labor Day; in 2004, it was elevated to a Grade II event. Starting in 2010, the race moved to the last Saturday of September in an attempt to get a stronger field preparing for the Breeders' Cup; the move to late September also made it possible to move away from another premier event, the Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course in New York.

All RaceClubs.com trainers are going to get the opportunity to join the fun by racing in any of the Pennsylvania Derby races- which have been programmed across the grades from G1 to G3 on Saturday, September 24, 2011.

All your horses are eligible for these races, all you have to do is run them over their preferred tracks, distances and goings because the Race Programmer is leveling the racing fields by awarding the $400 sponsorships to six lucky horses that will be selected from the races programmed in honour of Pennsylvania Derby. All you have to do is make your horses run for the money!

The process is easy: enter your horses into any Pennsylvania Derby race to be entered into a draw to win one of the six prizes. The more horses you race increases your opportunity to win more prizes. You don’t even have to win or place in those races to win!

So what can your horses win?

G1 = $120
G2 = $70
G3 = $10

Interesting facts about the Pennsylvania Derby:

In 1991 Andrea Seefeldt became the first female jockey to win the Pennsylvania Derby.
The following year Pam Shavelson became the first female trainer to win the race.

Time record:
1:47:3/5 - The Stakes Record is held by both Western Playbody (1989), Rock and Roll (1998) and Timber Reserve in 2007. Western Playboy also won the Derby by the largest margin: 17 lengths.

Most wins by a jockey:
3 - Joe Bravo (1994, 2003, 2008)

Most wins by a trainer:
3 - Woody Stephens

Most wins by an owner:
2 - Ryehill Farm (1979, 1988)
2 - Robert E. Meyerhoff (1986, 1991)
2 - Dogwood Stable (1990, 1993)

The question remains, how many Pennsylvania Derby races can you win in one day?

* Winners will be announced on Tuesday, 27 September 2011.

Are your horses claimable for the Cambridgeshire Claimers?

Cambridgeshire Claimers

In line with RaceClubs.com’s policy of creating more exciting horse races that cater for the greater virtual horse racing community we are proud to sponsor the Cambridgeshire Claimers.

If you’re familiar with the Claimers you will know that when entering your horse in a Claimer, you are putting it up for sale as any other member may place a claim on your horse. You own the horse until the end of the race and if it wins you collect the prize money. If someone has claimed it, you will also collect the claim price specified in the name of the race. It is is unlikely that a champion horse will be entered in a Claiming Race as owners will generally not risk losing their champions. Unless of course, a nominating owner has not recognized the true ability of a champion horse in which case the astute claimer will make a prize purchase of a horse that has ability to succeed in Graded Races. The higher value Claiming Races will naturally attract more competitive horses.

RaceClubs.com’s has sponsored the Cambridgeshire Claimers with $600 bonus credits- here’s how to win your share:

All horses that have been claimed through the Cambridgeshire Claimers will be entered into a lucky draw where either the buyer or seller will win $100. Three colts and three fillies will be drawn.

The Cambridgeshire Claimers are running from 19-25 September.
Winners will be announced on Tuesday 27, September.

Enter a claimable horse today!

Did you know that the The Rowley Mile, “Course of Champions”, will be the scene for three of the finest race days of the year when it hosts the historic Cambridgeshire Meeting, which has moved one week earlier in the calendar this year. There are so many great races to look forward to, several of which are being run at Newmarket for the first time thanks to a lot of exciting changes to this hugely anticipated fixture.

With three Group 1s - the highest class of race – alongside one Group 2 race and three Group 3 races, the quality of the meeting is even more exceptional than in the past. Add in the stunning spectacle that is the Betfred Cambridgeshire, one of British racing’s most famous handicaps, and you have all the ingredients for three unbeatable days of sport at the Home of Racing.

Thursday’s racing highlight is the Group 3 Somerville Tattersall Stakes, a seven-furlong contest for two-year-olds. This race has been won by many fine horses, including Grand Lodge and Milk It Mick, who both went on to win the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes.

Friday sees the action crank up a notch with the running of the Group 1 Shadwell Fillies Mile, an exciting new addition to Newmarket’s portfolio of juvenile races having just been transferred from Ascot. A string of outstanding two-year-old fillies have won this race in the past, several on their way to Classic glory the following year, including champions Bosra Sham and Reams of Verse.

Friday also features two excellent Group 3 contests, the Sakhee Oh So Sharp Stakes and the Nayef Joel Stakes, as well as two Listed races, the Mawatheeq Rosemary Stakes and the Aqlaam Godolphin Stakes, and the Standing For Success Silver Cambridgeshire Handicap for horses that did not make the cut in Saturday’s big race. All in all, it is a truly cracking card!

It gets even better on Saturday, however, with what will unquestionably prove to be one of the best racedays of the year. As well as the drama of the Betfred Cambridgeshire, when more than 30 horses will hurtle up the Rowley Mile track in search of a headline-making victory, tere are two stunning Group 1 events, the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes for older fillies over a mile and the Jaguar Cars Cheveley Park Stakes, a race that often identifies Europe’s best two-year-old filly over six furlongs.

As if that was not enough, there is also the Group 2 Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes, also transferred from Ascot, which was won by the brilliant Frankel last year.

Johnnymark lands the Ladbrokes Final by Moletown!

First Silverware, Johnnymark Lands Ladrokes Final

The weekend saw the first challenge finalists of the new season go to post in the Ladbrokes Monthly Challenge races for juvenile stayers. England was the location for the colts, whilst the fillies travelled to America's dirt track to contest the race. Both fields were faced with 2850m on sound surfaces. England had some decent weather prior to the race and the underfoot conditions were running perfect, good ground being the order of the day. The sun was also blazing in America, creating a fast track for the runners to bounce over. Both races saw quality animals enter the stalls, with a few early season auction purchases strutting their stuff for their new yards. It was, however, two sales ring purchases that had been held onto by their original yard who were going to land the spoils.

As the colts left the stalls, the early running came from the inside. Sky Castle Stables had two runners in the race and what appeared to be one of the rank outsiders in the race, Sun Light led them an early march. The 66/1 shot was defying his ante post price and looked strong in front. His bold bid to make all was credit to the horses stamina and it appeared his quest to wear them all out had faltered late in the race, when making the turn for home. Johnnymark's charge, So You Think had been covered up in midfield for the duration and only got going as they made the turn for home. Swinging off the final bend, he pulled upsides the leader, going well. The 3/1 second favourite of the race was seeking to give the yard their first taste of challenge success and it came, although not without a fight. Having been headed, Sun Light's jockey, Charlie Saxon, really got to work and the champion showed strength in the saddle to rally his mount late on and regained the lead inside the final 400m. The eventual winner of the race appeared tapped for toe and Kieran Doyle had to pull out all the stops to get So You Think back on terms.

In behind the front two a second race to the finish had emerged between Bush Master and Maluckyday, coming out of the yards of Tanglewood and Mac Hardy, respectively. Both horses had done their best running late in the race and went stride for stride to the line and it was the colours of Tanglewood who edged Mac Hardy as they passed the post. Bush Master went off the 2/1 favourite in the race and had followed the winner all the way round. He was something of an unlucky runner in the race as he hit trouble coming round the final turn and with a little more space, could have troubled the front two. When the winning horse entered the winners enclosure it signalled a first championship win for the yard. The confidence in his ability was later commented on by the trainer, "I really did fancy him in the race and I even backed him to win, although the price did put me off a bit." He didn't escape my attention when publishing the race preview either.

"Johnnymark hasn't had much luck in running in the sixteen challenge finals of seasons gone by. The only return has been a solitary place. However, when taking a close look at this contender I firmly believe that he could be one we will see fighting out the finish. He will enter the fray off the minimum weight and even though he finished down the field in his debut run in qualifying, it's his initial outing of his career in a rated race catches the eye and could be the marker we rate his chances in this on. He should handle the ground well enough and could be in the mix at the line, if his trainer has got him spot on for the race."

So You Think landing Johnnymark's first challenge victory

Prior to this win, the yard had found it difficult to get to grips with challenge finals. Their best success had come with a single placed effort. It's not that the yard haven't tasted the sweet feeling in challenge races as the statistics show there have been sixteen quallifying wins in a career spanning over five years and with career earnings close to £25000, it was only a matter of time before the yard added that little trophy to their profile. The win also cements that with patience, good things come to those who wait. Johnnymark chose the option to hold onto what he thought was a decent challenge contender and the confidence to do so has served him well. There were three horses in the race who had sold at auction for serious money. His sales ring endevours blessed him with some lady luck and a challenge final champion to boot. This win could be the first of many future champiions as I have found, like many others before me, the first one is always the hardest to get. I'm still waiting on mine, hopefully I won't have to wait much longer. So You Think will remain the one horse that Johnnymark will remember most and when questioned in the future, I'm sure he will always look back on this as his greatest achievement as a trainer. Congratulations!
