Slowstables 3000th Winner!

Las Coloradas 02/10/2010

Slowstables could be considered as one of the elder statesmen of RaceClubs.com. His stable has survived through thick and thin since his introduction to the game on Tuesday 17th August 2004. Many changes have occurred over the years and the yard has embraced the change and taken to all formats like a duck to water. Back in the days of yore there was no jockey representation of the random, no where near six time trials a day and G2 racing wasn't even a glimmer in RC's eye! Racing was totally different and some would say, far more competitive. The concept of virtual racing was now in full swing and Slowstables wanted to be a part of it. The stables first runner took to the track on a balmy Summer's morning, 22/08/2004, a day which saw little known Chilean, Nicolas Massu beat Mardy Fish of the USA to claim the Olympic Men's Tennis title. Midnight's Lair made the journey to a rain sodden American track to fly the flag in a New Stable Novice Juvenile 2YO Colts race. During the race the horse must have made his heart skip a beat or two and gave his owner a run for his money, until halfway. The two year old slipped off the pace, eventually crossing the line in seventh place.

The first of many learning curves negotiated during his long career had been hurdled. The very next day the horse was at the track again. Conditions were the same but the trip had been reduced. Obviously the trainer saw something in his race debut that suggested the horse didn't quite see out the 1600m trip, dropping him back to 1400m. The decision seemed justified when the horse ran a close fourth and became the trainer's first runner to bag some prize money. A further day passed and we would see the introduction of his first filly to hit the races. Snowball Oranges placement in an allowance race first time out would raise a few eyebrows in today's virtual arena, unless of course it was some kind of monster. Running off a top weight of 120lbs she lumped top weight to a creditable fourth place. The days passed and the stable continued to race the pair he had acquired from the ring. Like most trainers he wanted to seek the ability of a colt and filly and it was these two horses that probably built the foundations for the stable to this day.

It was to be only a matter of time before the yard were to score their first ever winner. Twelve days after his stable opened a result was to come his way when Midnight's Lair took down a Novice Plate by almost a length. The pleasure that the stable exhumed after that race, like all new trainer's when they cross the line in first for the first time, must have been immeasurable. It acts like a springboard to better things and the confidence only grows from knowing that you can do it. Not put off by Snowball Oranges' reluctance to add to his winning tally, she continued to frustrate until the early hours of September 2nd 2004. Carrying a weight of 114lbs in anallowance race she got her reward and recorded her first and her trainer's second winner, justifying his patience with her. The yard had now scored in a colt and fillies race, introducing him to the RaceClubs.com virtual world. Now aged twenty, Midnight's Lair and Snowball Oranges rest easy in the virtual knackers’ yard in the sky, knowing how important they were. The pair must be held in high regard by their trainer and sit fondly in his memory.

Skipping forward 2998 winners later, it's fair to say that Slowstables have established themselves as one of the most successful yards ever to hit the RaceClubs.com tracks. I for one am in awe of his dedication to the game and long may that continue. He will always go out of his way to help a new player and demonstrates a very good persona on the forums. A lot of trainers have come and go in his time here but Slowstables remains standing tall and is showing no evidence of retiring just yet. His current yard houses one hundred and twenty-four runners and yesterday, one of those runners, Las Coloradas made virtual racing history for the yard when recording his 3000th winner. Lining up in a Maiden Juvenile for colts, the two year old led close home to etch his name in the history books.

3000th Winner, Las Coloradas. Congratulations!

During his time playing the game, Slowstables have amassed nearly 26000 runs, securing over £90,000 in win and place money. I'm sure there are many races and many horses that will be remembered down the years by the trainer and possibly too many to mention. The stable has a knack when it comes to rated racing and the introduction of the format has seen him become one of the all time best. Over £36,000 has come his way via this arena, making a bold statement and contributing to 40% of his overall stable earnings. I'm sure he would be sad to see the platform disappear from the race programme, should that be the case but like many changes he has witnessed down the years, I'm sure his stable will evolve around and embrace any new and future developments. The one thing the stable is lacking is a Championship. Ten finals have not yielded a winner but I'm sure that is something that cannot detract from the achievement his yard has recently completed. I for one will have my fingers crossed that a Challenge Cup will soon be displayed alongside his name, after all, I think you'll agree that his continued support and dedication deserves it. Here's to another three thousand winners!
