Eire Stables goes Head2Head with Zip Stables for $50. Who will get your vote?

Moletown's $50 Head2Head

Eire Stables Vs Zip Stables
Who will get your vote?

When Tocohnas won the vote and the $50 prize in the last "Head2Head" many would consider that it was his stables versatility that gained him the vote. His yard produced the goods over the game period and his peers decided that he had performed better overall. This month two stables go "Head2Head" once again. Zip Stables and Eire Stables are two yards that are predominantly running lower grade G2 and G3 horses and it is this area of their stables that will contribute towards your final judgement. Zip Stables is void of any G1 horses, so in the interest of fair play, Eire Stables' G1 horses will not count during the game period. Both stables are no stranger to the rated race scene and have their fair share of success at this level as you can see by the statistics below for the month of September.

Eire Stables is holding a current stock of nine G2 horses. The stable has a mixture of claims, auction and sales ring purchases. They have displayed a canny knack to secure the services of a decent sort at the minimum of outlays. If you look around the stable, you will see a plethora of horses picked up for next to nothing. One of the catches that has stood out like a sore thumb was the claim of "Death On Fire", a June 17th bid from the yard secured the then, two year old colt and he has gone on to make a very decent profit for the yard. The three year old regularly competes in the highest calibre level weight and WFA races and since joining Eire Stables has won six races. Eire Stables has demonstrated discipline with his auction captures and has hardly strayed from a minimum bid when fancying a punt. It is always good business to turn a cheap claim or auction purchase into a money spinner and Eire Stables has done just that with many of his G2 horses.

The G3 numbers are a little stronger, fifteen in total, of which it is nice to see him stay loyal to one of his free horses that were given to him when joining RaceClubs.com. Shamrock Danoli, a four year old colt who favours the classic trip was born the day the yard chose their silks; and he has remained a servant ever since, picking up twenty wins in the graded and rated race arena. It's easy to see that the yard is astute when it comes to the G2 and G3 rated scene as they regularly play the game at this level, with success coming almost daily. Many of the yard's G3 horses have been brought in via the auction. Ten out of the fifteen have been picked up in the fortnightly sales, many of them at the minimum bid. It is an interesting tactic that the yard employs and it obviously works, bringing him many wins. It's unclear just how much time or money is spent in the sales ring but eight of his current G2 and G3 crop have come directly from the ring.

Zip Stables are a stable who is more concentrated on G3 horses than G2. His yard currently houses twenty-four horses, most of which have been acquired from auction. Of the nags that currently carry the stable colours, only two are G2 horses, G2 Boo and Slickster. The former has been the yards most expensive purchase, when they paid HM Forces Horses in excess of £70 for the sprinter. Maybe the failings of this horse have been the main motivation for the yard to concentrate their efforts within the G3 graded and rated series. The 1000m specialist has found life difficult at the track, taking eighteen races to crack his maiden. Beyond that win, it appears that the horse was not granted the best of age changes and has since resorted to racing in claimers. Sometimes it is a difficult pill to swallow when horses don't turn out to run as expected, judging by their TTs, although this experience has not stopped the yard dabbling in the auction.

When auction time looms, you will often see the name of Zip Stables, hunting the best G3s the site has to offer. Along with the likes of Thesidleyspanker et al, the yard possesses all the attributes to be successful in the rated arena at G3 level. Wins are frequent amongst their rated runners and money doesn't seem to be an issue when it comes to securing the services of a G3 beauty. The one horse that the stable are very proud of is Truck On. The five year old filly is one of the most successful rated runners to take to the track at RaceClubs.com. Her consistency over the classic and staying distance is remarkable, never out of the frame in the graded arena and scoring twenty-five wins at rated level are two good reasons to admire the filly. With two whole seasons to run, it's a certainty that the success will continue until retirement. Zip Stables is a yard that rarely visits the sales ring and few have come via the way of claims. Success comes to the stable by virtue of discipline and good race placement, attributes that all trainers aspire to.

Moletown's Thoughts

This month is going to be a very evenly fought battle. The G2 numbers may favour Eire Stables but I think the battle will be won and lost in the rated races. As you can see by last months statistics, both trainers are very evenly matched. What I like about this match-up the most is the ability of both trainers to identify and land a cheap auction horse, invariably turning in a profit on the horse. Both trainers are now experienced enough to know what the rated scene requires to succeed and I am very much looking forward to seeing the outcome of what I believe to be a tight affair. The challenge will now span the whole calendar month and started 1st October, ending 31st October. The voting poll will then be open for seven days to allow the maximum number of votes to be cast and the winner, as always will be credited $50 bonus credits from the "Bank Of Moletown". Just to clarify, G1 horses from either stable will not count towards the final outcome of this challenge.

Next month's titanic battle will be.... Solais Vs Gedgeys Top Guns
