Raceclubs Trainers Close Gap, September Is Divine! September 2010 One of the most talked about months in RaceClubs.com history has passed us by. There has been no end of topical debate, cries for action and some darn good racing to boot. As the virtual racing merry-go-round leaves September and moves into the fireworks month of October, let's all keep our fingers crossed for some sparkling action to come. Concentrating on what has arguably been a transition period for the fraternity, some may have liked the implemented changes, whilst others have displayed a not so keen attitude. Nevertheless, the racing has continued and much like a waterlogged Sunday morning football match, the conditions have been accepted and the players have got on with what they know best, racing! When you look into the site statistics, you always get that sense of familiarity. There is the obvious new charge and free-spending antics of Divine Diva Stables to get amongst the big boys but the performance of the month has to go to Rob of the Kopites yard who has secured himself a top ten placing on the monthly leader board for the very first time. He has exercised some unfamiliar control over his race nominations this month and although he is still likely to blow up at any given moment and shout idle threats of leaving, I firmly believe we will still see him here for many seasons to come. The idea of selling a lot of dead wood and group two horses has seemed to work for him as he made some solid group one purchases from the proceeds. It appears that the Manchester-Scouser has taken a step forward in the game and although the popular trainer sometimes doesn't realise it, his yard is taking a very nice shape. If he can continue some of the patience shown in recent times and continue with the game, rather than concentrate his efforts on leaving, there is no doubt he can be one of the biggest yards in the game. The auction scene has been frantic and sometimes I have had to look twice to see exactly how much a horse is selling for. The entire virtual community are witnessing some sheer power spending by the Divine Diva Stables. If you haven't heard of this stable yet, where the hell have you been hiding for the past few months? When all is said and done, is the stable going to stop spending on the best the site has to offer? Probably not! What was surprising to see and a statement of intent was the announcement that they had a further 5K to spend in the last auction. It is a fair comment made that the new kid on the block is "deadly serious". Though I believe, as serious as they are, there are cracks in their armour. Entering a challenge class horse into a £16.50 claimer may have been a small error by the yard but will benefit the new owner, Ditch Heath. Sakura Diva was far better class than claiming company and has already proved that by running Luscious and Regency Blaze close in two qualifiers this month. Irony sets in when you consider that the first winner, Luscious is now a Divine Diva horse. Regency Blaze is good, there is no doubting that! Miami Vice's filly ran a very good third behind Eyes Of Medusa in the Ladbrokes Challenge Final and will no doubt step up on this effort. It's not what you pay, it's how you race them! Quite a statement I think you'll agree but very apt in the case of Stardust Racing and their filly Eyes Of Medusa. Lyn was over the moon when her new acquisition led and made all when landing the spoils in this month's challenge final. A £405 purchase from the Island House yard now has the rest of her career under the guidance of the shrewd trainer and profit will be in abundance with this one, let's face it she has nothing to lose with her now after she has almost paid for herself already. A mark of a man is when they are prepared to congratulate, Island House is a very good man. He sold the filly to Stardust Racing and I recently received a mail from John, to quote, "I'm well chuffed for Lyn that Eyes Of Medusa won last night's Ladbrokes Challenge Final. I said she was good and she proved it." A good egg all round if you ask me. Some would despair that they had parted with a challenge winner, without doubt, so to see such sportsmanship and delight is admirable. The sales ring can be a fickle place but all the negatives you may experience will always be forgotten when you pull a challenge contender yourself. The randomness is no different to pairing up two quality real life horses. It's all relative, you just do not know what it is going to spawn. Yes, you can play safe and rely solely on the auction but when the ring favours you, great things happen, as Al Mighty demonstrated when taking down the colts' division of the Ladbrokes Challenge Final. Whether you are a big multi horse spender or a single horse purchase favourer, cash or bonus credits, the sales ring can accommodate you! What I liked so much about this championship winner was not the way he won the race but the way his trainer handled him, showing great patience and ultimately getting his reward. The July yearling was handled with care and attention to detail. He didn't sway from what seems to be his best race conditions, a little give in the ground. Al Mighty, I salute you! As we wave a fond farewell to September we immediately turn our attention to October. There is a lot in store this month, noticeably the Ladbrokes Challenge Finals. This month will see the "speedster's" hit the track to contest a "blink of an eye" final over the specialist distance of 1000m. If you have a nag lurking in the midst of your stable and are ready to unleash, I wish you all good luck. Let's hope that the month is a fruitful one for your yard and that the visits to the winner’s enclosure are frequent. |
