The St. Leger for the ladies will be a tight and competitive affair this season with a lot of horses in the line-up progressing this season. To stay 3200m on a fast track may be considered a little easier than a bogged down surface but nevertheless the filly that stays is the filly that wins. A couple of these horses have hit the jackpot with the going and if they can hold it together will be contesting the honours at the line. Cinderella Story out of the Victor Consortio Yard is a beast that will adore the conditions set. She has excellent form over the distance on a fast track and must go into the race as a major consideration. Another who will be rubbing their hands together at the prospect will be Frankies Rockets. Their filly, Scally Munter is as much at home on the fast surface, as Jim Royle is stuck to his chair shouting "My Arse!" The filly lives for this test of stamina and the addition of the going in her favour puts her right up there and it would be of no surprise to see the pair fighting it out to the line.

Other positives in the race include Where's The Snow, Pathway To Exile, Rhythm Nation and a sneaky outsider in the form of Hew's Immortal. I would love to see Pathway To Exile win this race as I will always have a soft spot for the filly. My heart wishes her to win but my head says she is the yard's second string in this race. Where's The Snow will have no problem tackling all and sundry. Liveoak Stables have a real chance in the race with this filly having shown some good form over course and distance. Rhythm Nation stays all day! She has an aptitude for the fast surface and will be a live chance and one to fear. An interesting runner who may be considered an outsider is Hewmatt's runner, Hew's Immortal. If all falls into place on the night I can see this one running a big race after showing some course and distance form that should be noted.

Shotgun Mike saddles two in the final with Spearmint Rhino and Apocalyptic Doom carrying the colours this season. Both horses have the ability to challenge and both have shown well up on fast goings. It's hard to choose which one is the favoured runner but I'll stick my neck out and say Spearmint Rhino just has the edge over her stable mate. Olga From Minsk and Majestic Angel are animals that ooze class. Their chances in the race much depend on not getting in each others face too much. Drawn alongside each other out wide they are both in possession of good engines and will see every inch of this trip out. The questions come down to the going. Yes, they both have form over the going but neither of them is very experienced on the fast tracks. This could act against them as they experience the toughness of the kick back and will need to get amongst them early.

Queen Alexandra was champion over the staying distance as a juvenile and will like the fast going. Confidence in the filly is limited though when you consider that this will be her first outing over the extended trip in her career. Is this a ploy by the stable to land something of a coupe or is it that the filly just doesn’t stay? I favour the latter. Hand Of God can be mentioned in the same sentence. The Irish Jeweller horse is no stranger to the winners’ enclosure during her young and successful career to date. I fear she should have stayed in the parade ring along with Moanieboanie as neither will figure in the shake-up. The latter would have needed a more giving going to even be considered and Hand Of God just doesn't stay 3200m. Burkveen Racing's second string in the race, Savannah Pride will stay the trip but like Moaniboanie would have liked some cut in the ground and this will be her first outing on a fast going. A fascinating race beckons.

What The Trainers Say...

......"He's the best horse I've ever owned and he already won the Classic as a 2yo. So The Seeker owes my nothing. I hope for fast ground because I don't think there are many that could beat him over 2400 with a decent jockey. If it comes up muddy I think the chances are gone.”......Stable 76

......"Public Enemy No1 will be entered in all the sprint and classic finals in the seasons he has left in training, as a horse of this ability needs to be able to take his chance. With the weight he has to carry his chances are not good. Would need a top random to be in the shake up.".......WRS Stables
