Public Enemy No1 has been a fantastic servant to his yard since the move was made from the Nacho Libre stable. WRS Stables will need everything in their favour if he is to defy top weight, conceding at least sixteen pounds to the field. The colt is a legend in his own right but maybe this is a bridge too far, even for such a class act. Against The Dark finds an inside rail in the race. The Stable TSIN participant was a decent runner-up in the race last season under the trusty steer of Jacques Girard. A repeat performance would not put him without a shout although the additional four pounds to carry may stunt him a little. Last seasons Nunthorpe winner, Green Birdie, gets into this race on the minimum weight and must pose a threat to his rivals. Karaman and Lucifer Incestus both featured in that race also and re-oppose on favourable weight this term.

Partnering Karaman in the race and representing the Sky Castle Stables making a trio of runners for the very astute trainer will be Shade and Blood On My Hands. Both horses will race off 120lbs and considering the form the stable have seen in this seasons monthly finals, who is to say that the pair won't be ready for this one. Both have form over the distance but may favour a little cut in the ground. Butlers Yard's brace in the race warrant respect. Carpathian Storm will be looking for his third end of season final place having previously gained a second place in the Juvenile Sprint and Nunthorpe finals behind Public Enemy No1. The five year old was absent from the challenge arena last season and maybe was purposely held back for this race. Butlers Yard saw the potential in the black colt, bringing him in mid season and will look to start the repayment by returning a respectable run in the race. The other to carry the colours will be Drachentaube. This horse has definitely targeted this season, likewise with his five year old assault on the race where he was a third behind Un Chien Andalou, another who is to target this race as opposed to last season and will look for his second Newbury in three seasons.

Moral raiser has only added two pounds to his starting weight after a consistent qualification run of results. The Winning Post trained will look to improve on last season's fourth in the race. A task that is not beyond his ability. Burkveen Racing has a strong hand of runners in this season's finals and his charge here may be an exception to the rule. In The Stars is a very capable animal but he looks to handle muddy tracks a lot better than turf. If there is a yielding or soft going he may be in with a chance of a place. Flames Of Doom may also be one that is more astute on a muddy or yielding going. Although running on a low weight if the ground does not suit then his chance will be drastically reduced. TOPCERT will prey for rain!

The Face will be very happy with the way The Guv'nor cam through qualifying. Some very consistent runs in good company proved a high end of season tally of points. However, the horse’s chances remain in the lap of the weather Gods. If he is to show his best in the race a little cut in the ground is needed. Like the previous two mentioned horses, the run up to the final will see their trainers practising a rain dance in the hope that the clouds will open, giving them the ground they so desire. A very interesting race in the making and with eight black horses in the race, it's odds on that this will be the winning colour but whose colours will be on board?

What The Trainers Say...

......"The weight is the biggest problem for Against The Dark to struggle for a place. The draw of Dr1 is a neutral one, he actually likes Dr3 to Dr5 starting position. Other factor that may influence his result will be the going: if it is on HK Good, I guess he will have a chance to run top-4, but if it is yielding, he is out...definitely, the jockey is the key!!!”......Stable TSIN

......"Public Enemy No1 will be entered in all the sprint and classic finals in the seasons he has left in training, as a horse of this ability needs to be able to take his chance. With the weight he has to carry his chances are not good. Would need a top random to be in the shake up.".......WRS Stables

......"Carpathian Storm carries the main hopes of the Butlers Yard stable in this one, he's got a nice draw and is well weighted so we'll just have to see how the going & jockey allocation go. 7 year old Drachentaube has the chance to go out with one last hurrah, but it would take an almighty effort so a place at best may be more realistic. Good luck guys, Phil."......Butlers Yard
