Welcome…

Welcome to the second month of The Fantasy Raceclubs Stable Competition. Last month saw Thechoosenone storm to victory after leading for most of the competition. Will this month see him remain as the man to beat or will others come to the fore? I’d also like to take the opportunity to welcome another new owner to the battle – Solais. Best of luck!

Ch Ch Ch Changes…

The end of the month saw the opening of the monthly transfer window and many owners took the opportunity to freshen up their fantasy stables, or in some cases, make wholesale changes. Doubles Donkeys after finishing last in month one opted to change the stable completely and hopefully the new horses will make a big impact for them.Last month’s winner hasn’t rested on his laurels withThechoosenone not living up to his name by choosing to make three changes to his stable. It’s going to be interesting to see if the various new selections can change the fortunes of their stables this month.

The Story So Far…

Month one saw Thechoosenone take home the first prize with Stardust Racing beating the best of the rest to come home in second place. It will be interesting to see how these changes alter the course of month two. Week one was a shorter week than usual comprising only three evening’s of qualifiers. Let’s take a look at what happened…

Tuesday

Tuesday evening see’s the King George and Queen Elizabeth qualifiers take place and this Tuesday was to see a healthy 2nd instance in the King George but another relatively small field in the Queen Elizabeth, with only 6 runners. The big story on day one of the new month was a blistering start by Hound Dog who amassed 34 points. This was thanks to an excellent win from star pick Norwegian Wealth and an 8th place finish from another of his star picks, Wings Of Freedom. Hot on his heels were Nacho Libre (29 points), Frankies Rockets (26 points) and Winbank Farm Stable (22 points), each of them also thankful to the same two horses, with the exception ofFrankies Rockets who benefitted from stable mate Songs Of Freedom rather than Wings. Making up the top 5 was last month’s surprise 3rd place finisher, Bradlite, who seems to have recovered from falling off his chair to stake his claim for another prize finish.

Wednesday

On Wednesday evening it was the turn of the 3yo’s with the St Leger qualifiers for colts and fillies. Not many selected horses were competing in Wednesday’s qualifiers but crucially one in particular was, Queen Alexandra, and she was to help Nacho Libre to leapfrog Hound Dog and into top spot.Although both owners have her selected in their fantasy stables, Nacho Libre has her as one of his star horses and that allowed her 2nd place run to move him just a single point ahead of the early leader. Those two owners increased their lead over the chasing pack as none of the other top 5 stables were able to score a single point but new entrant Solais did move level on points with Bradlite in 5th place.

Thursday

The final night of the week again saw the 3yo’s in action, this time with The Derby and Oaks qualifiers and there was to be far greater interest as far as the competition was concerned. Hound Dog had another good evening, scoring 18 points thanks to star pick Sir Sam Silver taking home the Derby qualifier. This was enough to see him back into first place for the end of week one.Nacho Libre held onto 2nd place as a result of star pick Urban Legend’s 4th place in the same qualifier however Frankies Rockets and Winbank Farm Stable both gained some ground on him and they are tied in 3rd place some 11 points further back. Making up the top 10 places at the end of week 1 are a number of relatively new faces to the top end of the table with Stable 76, Brelpoop StablesLittlewood Grange and Eire Stables all featuring. The most remarkable of these is Littlewood Grange who had failed to score a single point on the first two evenings but blasted 30 points to move into 7th place thanks to two star picks, Sir Sam Silver and Speech of Silence. Can he use this to kick on and mount a consistent challenge during the month ahead?

Auction Time…

Yes it’s that time of the month again so please keep an eye on the auction forum on Sunday to see if you need to make any changes as a result of auction moves. I can see one or two horses in there so if they change hands then replacement horses will need to be selected and with the competition being so close last season, it’s worth taking the time and trouble to get these new selections made.
