Now that the initial group stage of the world cup is coming to an end, it is time for the world to look forward to the round of 16. This commendable performance at soccer city was followed by successive wins over the Japanese and ‘Les Lions Indomptables' i.e. the Cameroon team with a 1-0 and 2-1 score respectively.

A Netherlands v/s Slovakia Match Preview cannot be complete without the analysis of the Slovakian side in the world cup. The journey for the Slovakian team has not been this easy; the Slovaks finished second in their group with a total of 4 points from three games. Up until the last game the chances for their qualification seemed very bleak, but the match against the defending champions proved to be the biggest upset of the world cup. At the end of 90 minutes at Ellis Park the Slovakians emerged as the winners and the Italian side was shown the way home having suffered a humiliating 3-1 defeat.

Unbelievable as it might seem, the Italians-considered as one of the strongest contenders for the cup- finished at the bottom of their group with just 2 points. Though this was the first time that Slovakia appeared in a major international tournament since their split with the Czech in 1993, their performance was not at all subpar. "We're very persistent, we don't give up until we've succeeded" is what striker Stanislav Sestak had to say about his team, and being true to their words the Slovakian side showed great skill and mettle in the field.

Whoever emerges as the winner will go on to the quarterfinal match to be held on the 2nd of July at Port Elizabeth.
