Soccer Preview: Slovakia’s World Cup Debut Against New Zealand To Be A Fun Match
We’re not expecting any great soccer from either New Zealand or Slovakia but hope springs eternal that either team may spring a few unexpected surprises in their game. The last New Zealand qualified for the World Cup was in 1982 but they managed to lose all three of their matches. Critics speculate that the only reason why they qualified for the 2010 World Cup was because they moved from the Oceania Football Confederation to the Asian Football Confederation. The Kiwis have displayed some exciting gameplay in a couple of friendlies against Italy, Serbia and Slovenia. The 2010 World Cup will mark be Slovakia’s international debut since gaining independence in 1993. However, what Slovakia lacks in international experience they are a lively team that know how to move across the field swiftly and ably. Australia may prefer a confrontational but it’s expected that the nimble Slovakians will try force them into a more submissive defensive strategy. Either way, both teams have nothing to lose so they’re probably going out there to make an impression and establish their credibility for future World Cup games. Expect a fun game but don’t expect to see either team making it into the Finals.
