Straw to mimic Blair in attempt to sort out major international dispute
Yes just weeks after announcing he would be removing himself from the centre of British Politics former Foreign secretary Jack Straw is about to embark on a new exciting mission. Unsure which road to travel following his announcement the Member of Parliament for Blackburn turned to the great owners of raceclubs for guidance. And a suggestion from new owner Murray Mint has gone down well in the corridors of power. Now that Notts County are climbing the football league ladder there’s genuine concern that in the not too distant future they and fierce rivals Nottingham Forrest could find themselves back in the same football division. In a bid to calm the waters ahead of this happening Jack Straw will (in Murray Mint’s words) “follow in Tony Blair's footsteps and become a special envoy to the East Midlands.” For your very helpful suggestion MM you win this week’s £10 in bonus credits.Worldwide search for Lee ends
Police in sixteen countries from Canada to Cambodia have called off a major search and rescue operation for Raceclubs owner and scribe Lee from the Moletown stable. When Lee’s insightful race previews, reviews and analytical articles stopped many in the game reported him missing. Police were thrown off the scent by Bonnybrook Farm after they wrote “The course caretaker tells me Raceclubs has sent him on a speaking tour for PR: Boston, New York, Cincinatti, Chicago, Moscow, Tokyo...etc. etc. Back at Christmas. “. Bonnybrook was taken into custody and charged with wasting police time. While Lee can indeed speak Russian and Japanese a close friend said he has a distinct dislike for both vodka and sushi! Hours of waiting for info on Lee’s whereabouts turned into days. There were rumored sightings in Dundee, Newry and Truro but all proved to be false. But then at 8.08pm on Tuesday, August 31 the message everyone had waited for came through. Lee wrote “I was just having a fortnight away whilst I did some home DIY! Check out the articles forum, I'm back and things will be bigger than ever. Hope you didn't get too many withdrawal symptoms!.” New shelves, a cut lawn and a fresh coat of paint in the kitchen then were to blame then for Lee’s absence. Can’t wait for the new articles Moletown. How ironic? The two sides of Arsenal!
Arsene Wegner is usually criticized for not buying enough players but Keith from the Gogogunner yard is criticized for snapping up too many charges!
Making his mark
Just a word to congratulate the Johnnymark yard for flying past the 1000 (rated and above) wins mark. This stable has over the last four and a half years shown itself to be one of the best in the business. Still though it must yearn for success in a challenge race. After 10 attempts Jonnymark horses are yet to win or place. Fingers crossed that statistic is rectified this season.Oh William, what have you done?
I don’t know if there’s anyone on this earth I feel less like than William Hague…and that was even before the recent revelations that he shared a hotel room with his adviser Christopher Myers. In 2003 he rubbed me up the wrong way (behave yourself) when he made anti-Irish jokes at a business dinner in London so that saw him drooped from my Christmas card list immediately. Still though I have a smidge of sympathy for him now. Hague of course went public about the whole ordeal after the rumours of his “night of gay passion” were dotted on various internet sites. One blog I saw today said “Hague has been notorious for his objection to legislation promoting gay rights as well as publicly supporting the homophobic old trout Phillipa Stroud who has a history of attempting to ‘cure’ people of their homosexuality. Whether Stroud has managed to cure Hague, and exactly how she went about it, are so far unclear. We cannot make any comment on these lurid allegations but reckon if true then Hague should swallow any thoughts of legal threats and stand up and take it like a man.” Oh my.

1600m Muddy Nunthorpe Sprint Qualifier A messy victory for Kopites- but a clean sweep into the money!

Shankley's so good, Kopites named him twice
| Shankley Shankley | Kopites | Kieran Doyle | LBW | |
| Monte Carlo | RedHalo Racing | Eric Sun | 0.48 | |
| Gentleman Earl | Liveoak Stables | Taz Rowley | 1.22 | |
| Flotilla Way | Sky Castle Stables | Wayne Bailey | 1.57 |
As the stalls opened the track was a streak of red and white as Shankley Shankley burst to the fore. The Kopites trained, Shankley Shankley had no intention of coming from off the pace in this race and he duly strode to the front at a very clever clip. Despite the early evening sunshine, the days before had seen a few showers of rain and the inclement weather had made the surface a little sticky, evident by the clumps of kick-back that hurtled from the leaders hooves. Obviously the tactics for the race were to send Shank's to the front and make him a difficult target to aim at. Kieran Doyle took heed of the yard's instructions and the canny Irishman did just that. After the first two furlongs the 3yo had clear daylight between himself and his adversaries. Darley Arabian, from a wide berth under the ride of Pedro Ferreira, needed a quick start to navigate the field to his left and for a split second it looked like he had successfully achieved this. However, when making the turn the rest of the field squeezed and the Squeaky Clean Stable's stalwart had nowhere to go, other then keep forging a wide run. The importance of the draw playing into the hands of his rivals.
The turn seems to sweep for nearly half the race over the 1600m distance at America and can cause races to be won or lost. In a blink of an eye, Darley Arabian had lost his early pitch and that was that for his chances in this race. When hitting the straight there was some progress on the leaders but the horse had just too much to do and had slipped to a disappointing sixth placed finish, two and a half lengths off the winner. Monte Carlo had no such difficulties when handling the turn. His inside draw enabled him to cruise the turn, guided by the runners to his right and the rail to his left, the RedHalo Racing colt came with a clear run off the turn in second and looked the danger to long time leader, Shankley Shankley. The lightly raced colt was having only his tenth career race. His progress have been thwarted by Gentleman Earl and Darley Arabian on a few occasions during his short career but today was going to be a reversal of fortune. Passing halfway and entering the straight both Monte Carlo and Flotilla Way had emerged from the chasing pack, undeterred by the ground to make on the leader and relishing the muddy conditions under foot.
Gentleman Earl had been nearer last than first for most of the race but as always the colt did his best running in the second half of the race. Time and time again this season we have witnessed a last to first effort from the colt, showing a devastating turn of foot. Alas today was not going to be one of those days for trainer Liveoak Stables. Whether it was the conditions of the race or that the horse was just too far off the pace come halfway is debatable. What was clear to see is that the leader had been given far too much respect and the daylight between them was too much to ask, even for a horse of Earl's ability. Up the straight, Shankley Shankley had kicked again and extended his lead to four lengths and was showing no sign of stopping. The three most likely to wear him down were, by now, looked beat and they would have to rely solely on Shankley Shankley's fitness in the last 400m to stand any chance. Kieran Doyle had ridden a masterful race and had all behind him struggling and off the bridle. Yet, the leader kept going and going right to the line.
Monte Carlo showed guts and determination after being headed by Gentleman Earl and Flotilla Way as they entered the final four. He came again with a late rattle to snatch second place and although the gap was closing fast between him and the winner, there always seemed a little left in reserve as the trip for Shankley Shankley was 200m shorter than his best. At the line the punters cheered as they witnessed a fantastic ride and worthy winner in Shankley Shankley. With more to come from the horse, Monte Carlo put his best work in at the death but was given too much to do, the same said for Gentleman Earl and Flotilla Way, who, not disgraced in defeat can take positives from the race as the pair made up the final places.

Eternal Elysium injects lethal finish at line
| Eternal Elysium | Shotgun Mike | Kieran Doyle |
Championship Series StandingsShotgun Mike's horses are running with grit and determination of late and todays winner Eternal Elysium was no exception. Never known when beat, the yards runners seem to battle tooth and nail to the line when the chips are down. Eternal Elysium had pressed all race to lead from the off, only to be headed up the straight by Lethal Injection. Classically had tried to go with them early but couldn't keep taps on the front two until a late rally from the Squeaky Clean Stable representative put him closest at the finish. Kieran Doyle asked for more entering the final two aboard the winner and he got his result. Working hard up the straight and looking assured of at least second place, Eternal Elysium got his head back in front inside the final furlong to record a well earned victory for horse and rider. Lethal Injection can feel a little hard done by to lose the race right at the death but this Stardust Racing colt has been handled tentatively this season and despite not winning a qualifying race sits at the top of the standings with thirty-two points. The juvenile colt challenge scene is fruitful and we will se no less than three consolation instances of this Monthly Challenge with a total of forty-nine horses already raced.

Championship Series StandingsGoldikova moved up into sixth place in the standings for the final of the Newbury Sprint. Keeping the weight off in these events is paramount to horse's chance of Championship success. With another two pounds added to the already penalised filly, the question has to be asked if the filly will have too much to do in the final. From a favourable wide draw, the filly absolutely motored from halfway to collar long time leader and front runner, Sachalin. The Team Johansson filly was competing in her fourth outing in the series to ensure qualification. Third placed Snowbird in the colours of Queen Bee was another to make it to the magical fourth race. Last Seasons Nunthorpe runner-up has had a difficult season. The early part of the season must have seemed a lifetime for the trainer as this talented filly failed on numerous occasions to land that all important fifth win for eligibility into the series. Once secured it has been all-in for the qualifiers with some very consistent performances. She is surely one of the contenders to raise the trophy at the end of the season and her trainer can now sit back knowing she has done enough so far this term to at least be there. Championship leader Sunline (NZ) sits on forty-five points but didn't fair as well as stable mate Firing Up, who put in a strong finish to make fourth place and complete the result.
