Stayers Challenge Final Juvenile Fillies

2850m Turf
30th March 2012

This Season's Contenders

Horse : Fable Countess
Trainer : The Free And Easys

During qualifying, Fable Countess picked up the best position in race, without winning, on three separate occasions, helping her into this final and carrying the minimum weight to boot. The versatile filly has had the aid of some top jockeys in those races but most notably, her best efforts seem to come with a bit of cut in the ground and she will probably hope for a soft or yielding track for this final. She may be best on the dirt with two eye catchers in defeat, without the blessing of the run of the race, which points towards a good three year old campaign ahead of her. She must have a chance in this race, should conditions suit.

Horse : Dysnomia, Baba Looey
Trainer : Squeaky Clean Stable

The yard saddle a brace of runners in this final, and the pair couldn't be more different. Baba Looey will want the rain to stay away, whilst Dysnomia, a challenge winner earlier in the season, will beg for the flood gates to open. In fact, the latter has been phenomenal on the yielding surfaces, unbeaten in three, on each of the turf tracks. Two of those wins were certainly not wanted, prompting the yard to scratch his head. She ran her first without blinks, unfit, and won. The second, without shoes, and won. The third was in the Ladbrokes Final and again, she won, fully tacked this time though and she was impressive. If the ground comes up yielding, the rest of this field better watch out, she won't be easy to pass in her quest to maintain her 100% record on the surface.

Horse : Stars In Her Eyes
Trainer : Derekw10

Derek paid a fortune for this baby who started her career in style as she claimed the title in the Ladbrokes Series of December for her past master. That prompted a flurry of bids for her from the biggest yards in the game, when she went to auction in January and it's easy to see why she commanded a princessly sum. She will be a major asset to the yard and a future in the three year old series is nailed on, she loves the dirt muddy and benefits from a transition of ability over the longer trip. It is, however, unclear as to how she will perform in this final but at a guess, a bit of rain would help. Next season will be her forte.

Horse : Rihanna Rocks, Pure Pearl
Trainer : Sky Castle Stables

On the surface of things, Rihanna Rocks appears to hold every chance on a softer surface, evident by some placed efforts on muddy and soft going. I don't think this is her at her best and my reckoning is that she is more at home on a sounder surface and although, not to be discounted on other goings, I think firm or good ground is needed. In contrast, Pure Pearl will relish the heavens opening and the more rain, the better me thinks. All three of her wins have come on soft ground and despite her penalty, if the ground comes in her favour, we will see a happy horse at the track. Will her owner be smiling at the end of the race?

Horse : Tequila Cooler
Trainer : Steakpie

After opening her account at the first time of asking, in a Monthly qualifier, the route to this final for the horse and yard has been meticulously planned. The confidence in the filly was certainly shown when only managing to reach the consolation race of that series, the yard removed the shoes and lost the race intentionally. Since then, a bit of tinkering and good race placement will see the horse enter the fray with every chance of success. If the previous horse in this preview yearned soft, if it comes, this one will be all over it. Expect a bold show.

Horse : Scarlet Empress
Trainer : Wrs Stables

It seems that the trend of soft going horses continues with this charge from the respected yard. The yard failed in their quest to get their first string, Hms Endeavour, into this race and now all hopes lie with Scarlet Empress. She will need soft ground to produce the best of her ability and her defeat against Pure Pearl, earlier this season, on paper, looks weak, don't let that result fool you! She is a filly of decent pedigree and could be amongst them turning for home if the random dice plays to her strength.

Horse : Raptamatak
Trainer : Amber Fields

An interesting proposition in the race, one that is difficult to weigh up. She looks like a filly who holds ability and could have been well bagged into this final. My gut instinct is that she will enjoy good ground but when the chips are down and a decision has to be made, I'd have to say that she lacks a little when you factor the ability of others around her. Heads, she's good, tails, she's not! You decide, as I can't fathom how good she really is.

Horse : Virtual Star
Trainer : Top Star Stable

This horses strongest line of form has come on firm ground, despite her win in the series over muddy, I am punting on her being a little special in this field if the ground comes firm but she could also have good ground as her secondary underfoot condition. The manner in which she raced over 3200m in her second to last race in this series, is a very strong indication of what could be beneath the saddle and that was not the only form that suggests a sound surface is what she craves. The bigger picture also reveals some encouraging efforts on moist ground too and she could be a very lively contender in this race. A bit of extra weight won't matter too much and if she wins, there will be another new yard to etch their name on a challenge trophy.

Horse : Omnia Vis Enim
Trainer : The Chamberlaynes

She could like firm ground just as much as she likes soft but I'd have to say that soft would be her first preference. There are a few horses in this generation who seem to be mud lovers, heavy going that is, not dirt track specialists, and she is no exception. Could they all be clones of one and other, surely not!? You would hope that there is a bit of variance in their ability, otherwise it becomes a bit too reliant on the draw and the run of the race. She looks decent enough and racing off her low weight will add weight to her chance in this. A nice effort looks on the cards, if given the run.

Horse : Langkawi
Trainer : Colonel Sterling

I don't think this one stays 3200m, so, you'd have to say that this was her time to shine, as she will not be contesting next seasons final over the extended trip. If it wasn't for her win in her last race, she wouldn't even be a feature in this spectacle. In all honesty, her berth in this final has come at the expense of a couple of better animals but to get to a final, you have to be good. She did win that race on soft going and will probably be held by the third in the race, with the added weight but she is no forlorn hope in a race which is rapidly becoming dependent on a lot of rain.

Horse : Farjah
Trainer : Major Smokee

Farjah looks of the mould of a few runners before her in that she is probably going to be best suited over next seasons marathon distance on the dirt. I am starting to think that the form book doesn't read as well as it ought to, with so many of the qualifying races being trumped up on goings that seem to have been dictated by the odd shower or two. All the turf outings this season have come soft, with a bit of yielding or firm, which is making me think that good ground will be thrown into the mix for the final. That will turn this race on its head, with little or no form to measure. It makes summing up this horse very difficult and those before, who I thought could be soft ground specialists, may not be at all. I really need to get to the end of this write up quickly now and bury my head as it is now completely fried. My apologies to you, Major Smokee, I haven't really summarised your chances in this but if the truth be told, stick a pin in!

Horse : No Nuts Rosey
Trainer : Bury New Road

I'll make this one quick! Has form on soft, as do most. Ran well with Saxon in the saddle on three occasions and will probably do well with him again, should the horse be lucky enough to get him. She won on fast ground, which has absolutely no effect on this write up, whatsoever. She didn't do too well on muddy, again, no relevance at all. I like her owner, he is a good guy. Let's move on to the three year olds and upwards, as the juveniles have done my head in! One more thing......Pray for Muamba!
