Stayers Challenge Final Juvenile Colts

2850m Dirt
30th March 2012

This Season's Contenders By Trainer

Horse : Dezza
Trainer : DerekW10

Dezza is a future Hall Of Fame inductee, for sure, there is no doubting that. Seemingly, breezing his way through qualification, he keeps on winning but has he bitten off more than he can chew? Will his weight in the final be a burden even the greatest colt can muster? I think so! What he has done has created a level playing field in this final and the title is up for grabs. His 14lb penalty could rise even more, should his trainer decide to capitalise on future opportunities. I think Derek has done the right thing with the horse. I don't think he would have won the Classic Final over 2200m and consolation race awaits in that series, so you may think he has wasted the horse and his chance in the stayers final, far from it. All the yard have done is earn more money from him than the championship pot would have grabbed. Cleverly done, it doesn't matter if he comes away from this race defeated, the calculations have been done and the yard seem happy with the outcome. I'm not saying his hope has gone because we all know how good he is but his odds of winning have lengthened, opening the door for a lesser type to walk through.

Horse : Hissing Sid
Trainer : Linhouse

Hissing Sid looks comfortable on the dirt tracks and will be looking to secure the yards first ever championship. The blinkers have come off and then back on again, all season long for this colt, testament to the yards intention of doing the right thing with the animal. The minimum weight in the final will help his cause no end and he could run a big race. He looks well in for future championships too, the ability to compete over the marathon trip is a bonus and a massive pull in the weights with the superstar of this field could see him come good.

Horse : Battle Of Britain
Trainer : G1 Racing

This colt will rely on the ground coming up fast, his muddy exploits this term do not fill me with any confidence. It is difficult to say whether he possesses the true class required to go on and win this type of race and my gut instinct suggests he is a little below others who make this line-up. He ran an ok race on the mud when contesting a Monthly Consolation race over 2400m but I would doubt the quality there was anything near what he faces in this. If fast ground comes he could run a decent race, though I would expect him to be more midfield than maestro.

Horse : Mojo Icon, King Mojo, Gucci Mojo Gucci, Wherethefoxhat
Trainer : The Free And Easys

The dominant force in the juvenile challenge arena this season is without doubt this yard, here the colours saddle four. King Mojo and Mojo Icon will both line-up in the Classic Final, prior to chasing this dream and one of them could have an additional penalty to carry. They are both likely to be in with a shout in this and the dirt won't bother the runners too much as they both have form, independently on fast and muddy ground. The second pair in the race, Gucci Mojo Gucci and Wherethefoxhat, great name by the way, both look capable but of the pair, Gucci looks the stronger and will run here, void of a weight hike. His exploits on dirt look consistent and he has run some telling races in defeat and he could be a horse that may act well enough on both outcomes. His mate, Wherethefoxhat, will add 2lb to his back for his recent win and will probably have to rely on a bit of good fortune to come out on top here. I'd have to say he was the weakest of the foursome and despite having winning form on fast over this finals trip, he needed the aid of Mr.Saxon on that occasion and I am not totally convinced that he can shoulder the penalty with the exact same outcome.

Horse : Speedlimit
Trainer : Khl Racing

Having missed out in the Classic Final qualification, the yard will be totally focussed in getting this one right for a shot at a championship prize. The horse has all his eggs in one basket and will be praying for rain. His chance will rely on the mud getting stuck in his hooves and he has been eased into the final on the minimum weight. Should he pick up his classic consolation race, add another 2lbs to that. To give him his best shot in this race will solely depend on what going hits each track. Muddy in the classic and he'll go all out for a win there and if it's fast here, I don't think we will see quite the same horse.

Horse : Snow Shift
Trainer : Sky Castle Stables

Snow Shift seems capable on a multitude of goings and his worth was proven when running a massive race in behind Dezza's score in the Ladbrokes Monthly Final over 3200m. It was firm on that day but since then, the horse has won three times and in this a 4lb penalty awaits. That could be too much on his back to score victory but he could run into a place if everything goes his way. I don't think he is just a token finalist for the yard, I expect to see a decent performance, even if he is not in the money.

Horse : Supercharger
Trainer : Bury New Road

Supercharger was brought into the yard in January and he could turn out to be some investment. I like this horses chance in this race, even with his 2lb penalty. I don't think the ground will bother him one iota and he could run an awesome race. His win in the series was a blip on an otherwise faultless journey to this final. His chance would have been enhanced all the more under a minimum weight ride but the penalty doesn't look too harsh and I expect a bold challenge from the much improved trainer, Bury New Road. His fourth place in the fore mentioned Monthly Final behind Dezza was good, only the random beating him to a better position in the race and if he is spot on come race day, he might just land the title.

Horse : Jemchipsa Picard
Trainer : Jemchipsa Magic

The trainers says, "This horse will need everything right but with no weight penalty it has a chance. It will need the right going and a top random which it has never got much of. This field is strong so the top aim is really a top four finish, if I win it would be a case of lot of things going right and everyone else going wrong. I would say its midfield in this group if all things were even." To get everything right will first depend on the going, he needs fast ground and anything other than this will spell defeat. The trainer was honest in his appraisal of the horse and I would agree that others look far stronger in this race.

Horse : Richie Incognito, Mavatorian Beast, Rebels Legacy
Trainer : Shotgun Mike

Richie Incognito and Mavatorian Beast will contest the Classic Challenge Final and may do ok there. If either of the pair were to win that race, a hike in the weight awaits but like others before them, their chance in either race will be dictated by the going and their attention focussed on the best target. Rebels Legacy was a cheap pick-up by the yard in a January auction, who will rely on fast ground to show his best. The minimum weight will help the charge but I believe there are others who will benefit more from that outcome. I am in no doubt though, that he will be fully wound up to produce his best and with everything pointing to a good run, he could make the frame. A win in this race will probably depend on others who falter but for just over a hundred quid, who could argue that the champion hasn't found yet another bargain. In the same auction he picked up Mavatorian Beast, will either of them grab glory here?
