Sprinters Challenge Final Juvenile Fillies

1200m Dirt
28th March 2012

This Season's Contenders By Trainer

Horse : Jemchipsa Borg
Trainer : Jemchipsa Magic

The trainer isn't too keen on his winning chance in this race and favours a shot at next season and that is probably why the wins have been racked up this term. By his own admission, it was decided to try and make as much money as possible out of the qualifying process and Jemchipsa Borg hasn't let him down. She will, of course, have as much chance as could be expected, if muddy ground came but anything other than that will be a struggle. The yard says, "I would be happy for a top 4 finish with this weight, which is still likely but she will have to get a good random for this to happen." I don't want to sound negative but she would have to be something special to lump her weight in this final, all the way to the line and for me, she won't be winning this season. Next season though, well, that's a different story altogether and no doubt she will be a massive threat in The Nunthorpe.

Horse : Sweet Toot, Toot Sweet
Trainer : Squeaky Clean Stables

If this was a live race, Squeaky Clean Stables would have created a commentators nightmare. Toot Sweet, Sweet Toot, boy I'm glad I only need to write about the pair. To avoid confusion, Sweet Toot is a chestnut horse and Toot Sweet is a bay and that is how I will address them. The chestnut ran a blinder back in February over 1200m, behind Filius Diaboli. On that day, the ground was soft and although she didn't win the race, she did show favour to a bit of cut in the ground. She then followed up that effort with a win on muddy over 1400m, exacting the idea that a bit of rain is just up her street. She has not run on dirt over 1200m and by this it is conceivable that her future lies over 1400m and 1600m. With almost half the field carrying a penalty of some sort, her 2lbs is not a major issue but it will certainly slow her down somewhat on what looks like her least fancied trip. The bay horse was even more impressive in the above mentioned race and ran without shoes, finishing midfield. It has been a constant toggle all season long for this horse in the series, shoes off, blinkers on, the yard have done everything to avoid penalties and despite having won, her 2lb is easily overlooked in this final. A lot will probably rest on the ground, muddy is probably her liking, just like her stable mate but of the pair, I know who I would have my money on.

Horse : Conquering Coley
Trainer : Derekw10

Unlike her two predecessors, Conquering Coley will rely on the rain staying away from the track. Her talent will be exposed if the ground comes up muddy. She has been gingerly handled into this final and carries no penalty. Despite her owner trying to avoid winning, she has been ultra consistent in her races, placing in five of her seven outings in qualifying, more than paying her way. If things go her way and she is privy to a nice run in the race, she might well be up there with a chance entering the final few hundred. A lot depends on the track being fast on the night and therein lies her chance. The yard will feel confident about that and she will be spot on for the race, can she win?

Horse : New Trick
Trainer : G1 Racing

After a last ditch scramble to get one into the colts race, G1 Racing were quietly confident that New Trick had done enough in her efforts to seal a finals berth, with races to spare. She is another who carries no penalty and has probably been run to lose her races. A couple of nice places along the way have helped soften the blow to the yards coffers and she lines up with every chance. Her liking will be for rain, muddy seems to be where she has shown up well enough and her only effort on a fast track came in defeat over the minimum trip but that run is probably not as bad on paper as it looks. With not a lot of experience over 1200m, it's difficult to sum up whether she is best suited to the distance and it is probably wise to swerve her as a potential champion based on this. She will definitely fair better over the longer trips and for me, this 1200m, may just catch her a bit one paced when the chips are down.

Horse : Heat Diamond
Trainer : The Free And Easys

Is Heat Diamond a mud lark or does she fancy a bit of fast? Her fast ground exploits seem below her performances than when the ground is sticky. She even dodged a Consolation Final by running without shoes and unfavourable blinks. This move speaks volumes for the yards confidence in this final. She could be anything if I'm honest and to avoid an added penalty in the mentioned final was probably the right move, considering the greater riches this race brings. 1200m won't pose her any threat and it is probably her best trip, coupled with the minimum dash. She is a tricky prospect to sum up but the yard is not shy of a bit of quality, so I expect a good show from this one. If I were to stick my neck out, one moment, I can't, she has me puzzled. I think I will stop the write up here and now by saying, good luck it's not often I have been presented with a horse that has, to say the least, snookered me.

Horse : Ruffian(BD)
Trainer : Black Death

I will not waste too much of my time writing about this horse your time, reading. She is obviously a nice horse who will struggle in this race. In summary, sorry Dave, five words, too much weight equals defeat!

Horse : Jx Mygirl
Trainer : Graz

Another difficult prospect to make a strong case about. She has had her moments this season, without really setting the virtual world alight. Her best effort has come in her most recent outing, a third place finish on yielding over 1200m. I am of the opinion that her best runs will come on turf and she might struggle a little in this final. There is form to view in a Consolation Maiden Challenge Final over a muddy 1200m but the quality of animal in that race would raise a few questions, therefore, it is for that reason that I think she lacks the quality to pose a major threat in the race.

Horse : Silent Whispers
Trainer : Wrs Stables

I know this filly all too well, having sold her at the start of the season. She is a class act and rather special. She is of the same mould as previous champions and will prove strong in the race. Her chance is focussed mainly on the mud in this, though she probably will perform well at some stage in her career on most grounds. For this final she will need rain and should carry her penalty well enough but it may not be enough to bring home the championship this season, though, next season she will be a dominant force. I knew what sort of quality she was when I pulled her and if I am honest, I do regret the sale, she would have served me well, as she will her new yard. Ron says, "She is a top class sprinter who is in the same class as Mary Celeste, a previous Juvenile Championship winner. She is much better over 1400m and has a great future as a 3yo."

Horse : Queens Indian
Trainer : Jsl Racing

This is another horse who sacrificed a Consolation Monthly to prevent the added weight on her back. All season long, she has performed ahead of the random she has been allocated, proving she has a bit up her sleeve. Will she show her true hand in this final is the question. She looks a versatile sort who may enjoy the run of most sprint trips and she could be something of a dark horse in this race off the minimum. All in all, if she is a lively contender or not, she looks like she could ruffle a few feathers. Jsl Racing will relish the opportunity to take on the cream of the virtual world and as a debut runner for the yard in a championship final, the excitement builds for the off.

Horse : Tweedledee
Trainer : Pkr Player

Tweedledee had to rely on other factors in the last races of the series, in order to book her place in this final. It could turn out to be a bit of result for the yard. The filly looks extremely strong over 1200m and it appears that she may well be at home on a fast going, making her a strong hand in the race, should it turn out in her favour. She is one of a handful of runners who will relish the rain staying away and her chance may rely more on that fact, rather than what she is able to produce on the track. She has shown glimmers of ability on the mud and may well hold her own in races over this surface, however, she is not too convincing and I would rather take her on more favourable ground.

Horse : Precocious Steps
Trainer : Lonesome Dove

"Precocious Steps is the best of my small string of Grade 1 horses and I've learnt many lessons from running her in qualifiers this season. If the final comes up fast then she'll have a great chance of making the frame, but whatever happens I believe she has a good career ahead of her." Lonesome Dove makes a very level headed comment about his horse and I would have to agree with him. The beauty of running in the challenge series races is without doubt, the amount of knowledge you can gain from it to take you to the next level of competition. When to sandbag a horse in a race is paramount to your success in the arena and I'm sure Jack has picked up much information on his journey with Precocious Steps this term. It is evident that this filly shows a distinct distaste to muddy and the challenge dream will end for this season if the rain comes. If everything goes in her favour, we could be crowning a new championship winning trainer.

Horse : Designer Stardom
Trainer : Designer Stud

You could say that Designer Stardom has been a little unlucky in running this season. She has steadily picked up the points with a string of midfield positions and a couple of places amongst the competition. An early win in her career in a Sprinters Handicap may be slightly regretted by the yard, in hindsight. That win could be the deciding factor between a win or a place in this race. Like many before her, she will rely on muddy ground to show up but something tells me we haven't seen the best of her this season and maybe she hasn't been as unlucky in running as her form suggests. I think a bold show is probably going to materialise in the final but whether she has enough in hand to edge her nose in front at the line depends a lot on how much she has in the tank. Garry is an experienced trainer and I am confident he will have her ready to show her best, whether that is going to be enough on the night, we will see.

Horse : Cash Advance
Trainer : Sky Castle Stables

She only cost £100 at auction when Divine Diva Stables was having a clearout of the yard and at that price, a challenge finalist seems cheap as chips. She has a lot in common with her stable companion that will contest the final in the colts division. She cost the same price, she is an unknown quantity and she's managed to show up, looking to turn a very low investment into a monster coop. Her form suggests that she will like the trip but I think the champagne can be held on ice, I don't see her winning this as I believe there are far too many better runners in the race that will rely on a muddy track.
