Enter The Hobart Cup Leger Races
It is considered to be the highlight of Southern Tasmanian mink and manure set, horse racing enthusiasts and the ubiquitous fashionistas who seem to gravitate wherever there is a photo opportunity with a horse. Yes there will be a fashion shot at the Hobart Cup if you're more interested in the fashions than the races, but more importantly there will be thoroughbred horses racing for over $300,000 sponsorships.
The real beauty of the Hobart Cup races is the Elwick Racecourse in Glenorchy, Australia (although it sounds like it could be in Ireland). It's a lush 2200 metre left-handed track which has showcased some of the most magnificent race horses you've ever seen down under. This is the track which helped make horses like Growl, Gotta Keep Cool, Offenbach, Blutigeroo and True Courser the champions they are today.
The Hobart Cup is part of the Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival. You can also enjoy a picnic marquee on the lawns or enjoy a buffet luncheon in Terrace View Restaurant. If you feel like roughing it you can book a car spot for £288.00 and enjoy your picnic al fresco in the leger car parks or as the Italians put it more elegantly, "mangiare cibo in una macchina".
The Race Programmer is a simple man with simple tastes. He usually shares a table at the Terrace View Restaurant with some of the most beautiful women in the world: Linda (Ireland), Cathy (London), Taylor (USA), Maria (Italy) and Ana (Hong Kong). While they don't usually get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day he says they really make an effort for the four-course gourmet luncheon (only £204.80) because it includes a complimentary race book. He's not sure what they’re serving this year, but if last year’s pork & veal terrine, pepper crusted whole roasted sirloin of beef with pan jus and the vanilla panna cotta with mixed berry couli, chocolate shards & whipped cream for dessert were anything to go by then he’s planning on going there hungry.
"Such decadence!" you might say, but he's even stretched his budget to sponsor two Hobart Leger Prive C Division Juvenile races with £128.00 cash just for you on the 12th February, 2012.
Hobart Leger Prive C Division Juvenile C - Gr 1

£16.00 G2 Winner:

(Prizes will be paid on Tuesday, 14 February 2011.)
So pull out your horses, silks and pack a lunchbox because we're going down under to see whose horses can reach the top!
