Mac Hardy says dreams come true on RaceClubs.com!

What did it feel like for you to win your Challenge Series?
I couldn’t believe it! I still can’t believe it! It really was a dream come true that will be extremely hard to come by again!

How optimistic were you about winning?
Winning two of the biggest races in the 2yr old division in one season is something I never thought my stable would achieve. It was something I had only dreamed of and being a relatively small stable and competing against some of the best virtual trainers in the game kept me very level headed. I had been quietly watching the auctions throughout the season and kept an eye on what sort of time trials the horses being purchased by the big spending stables were running. I knew my horses were top class and if I could qualify them on minimal weight and get favorable track conditions that they would have a decent shot at that gold trophy!

What routines do you follow before the race?
A few days prior I made sure my horses are at peak fitness and all have a fresh set of shoes on. I like to give them a few time trial runs over the ground that to be raced on. I had the raceviewer setup on my big screen TV especially for the challenge finals, and as I watched the countdown timer countdown to the start of the race the nerves started to kick in. Being based in Australia means the challenge races are run around 6-7am so I’m generally drinking a coffee when the races are about to jump. Apart from sharing the victory with many of the other trainers on raceclubs it was my wife who was first to find out the news.

What advice would you give other trainers?
Patience is the key to any chance of victory unless you have some sort of monster horse in your stable. The challenge series is very competitive and many of the horses run similar times, so trying to get some sort of edge over the field is crucial. I would advise the smaller stables that might have an interest in one day racing in the challenge series to try and hold onto their challenge horses and resist the temptation to auction them off so quickly. Give the horse a run and see how they go, be patient and learn from the horses results. I have a few 4-5yr old horses that I supped as 2yr olds even though they probably were not really challenge material, more of the consolation type, but i feel I learned a lot by racing them and got a better understanding of how the series should be played.

What would you do differently in future Challenge Series?
Get myself a decent sprinter and try my luck with taking out the sprint, classic and stayers trophy’s!!

How do you celebrate winning the Challenge?
Well I did a little shouting and dancing around my lounge room then had to head off to work!! Not the best way to celebrate two challenge final wins, so I have decided to take the wife away for a nice little vacation to a beach resort on the North Queensland coast. I will also have a little dip in the sales ring and keep my eye out for any bargains in the upcoming auctions.

Final Comments?
I would just like to thank Raceclubs and the community for such a wonderful game, Jacques Girard, Charlie Saxon and Kieran Doyle for riding my horses to perfection and also to the "sales ring" for being so kind to me this season!
