Gentleman Earl's victorious sweep at the The Derby Qualifier 3Y (C) does The Derby Qualifier 3YO Colts Proud!

The RaceClubs.com Challenge Series The Derby Qualifier 3YO Colts - - Thursday 5th August 2010 - - Gentleman Earl Liveoak Stables Held up rear, progress wide through halfway, swept to front final 200m, won well 2nd Darley Arabian Squeaky Clean Stable Took hold midfield, closed on leader entering straight, stayed on well close home to grab second, not pace of winner 3rd Holy Moley Moletown Attempted to make all, ridden and no extra final 100m, good effort 4th Doldrums Squeaky Clean Stable Settled, with stable mate to halfway, lost position wide, ran on well final third 5th Fire Fox Champions Stud At rear halfway, stayed on entering straight, ridden and no extra 6th Workforce (AUT) Stable 76 Midfield and settled, ridden entering straight, stayed on same pace 7th Sky In Flight Sky Castle Stables At rear for most, headway and progress, stayed on same pace 8th Amron Juliussilas Disputed last for most, stayed on passed tired horses 9th Speed Gonzales Damlatuanadrop Ridden vigorously to get closer, swamped off final turn, no extra 10th Jose Mourinho Cotton Castle Pace through 400m, rails, pushed along, faded from halfway 11th Napoleonic Wars Wrs Stables Always wide, ridden hard to challenge, couldn't get going 12th Public Property She Devil Raced close up, effort and ridden from halfway, faded 13th International Spy Divine Diva Stables Behind and ridden to challenge to halfway, faded fast entering straight 14th Meltus Kopites Showed up early, weakened throughout The class acts of the three year division this season are undoubtedly Gentleman Earl and Darley Arabian. Both horses contested the classic juvenile final last season with both horses lacking a little staying power to challenge for honours over the 2400m distance that greeted the final last term. This season could well be a ding dong affair between the pair and the race on this day was proof of what to expect from them over distances up to 2200m. Gentleman Earl came out with honours on this occasion with a fantastic finish out wide. Having a clear view of the horses up front the jockey got to work on the winner entering the straight and he absolutely nailed it to the line. Darley Arabian had no extra to challenge the flight of the Liveoak Stables trained colt but showed the promise that we are likely to see in future races, coming again late on to collar the Moletown trained, Holy Moley, close to the line. Holy Moley tried to burn a hole in the track and forced a frantic pace up front when attempting to make all. The colt showed exactly what his trainer had expected from him and can take positives out of the race for the season ahead. Quick out of the stalls and into an early lead the three year old stole a march on his rivals and looked all over the winner entering the straight. Stamina may have been the issue with the horse as he was collared close home by the front two. Credit must be given to the ride of Doldrums as his jockey seemed unconcerned about the pace up front and settled his mount at the rear and did most of his running in the second half of the race. With a clear run off the turn the progress to the line was relentless. Horse after horse was passed and he may be one who will benefit from an extended distance. All in all this was a great spectacle of a race which culminated in an exciting finish and could be an interesting pointer towards the final itself. Positive Beside the great runs of the front pair, Doldrums looked far from outclassed and can step up on this effort, especially over a longer distance. Squeaky Clean Stable's Derby hand looks strong this season. Negative Meltus' effort in this race was way below what the horse is capable of and his trainer, Kopites looked bewildered as he loaded the horse box onto the plane for a right good moan all the way back to his Manchester based yard. Rumour has it that at least two stable lads felt the full brunt of his rage and were handed their P45's, even before the plane had taken off. The RaceClubs.com Challenge Series The Oaks Qualifier 3YO Fillies - - Thursday 5th August 2010 - - Shes My Girl Flying Fillies Second and cruising to halfway, shaken to lead, extended and ran on well, easily 2nd Paranoid Parasite Shotgun Mike Always settled rear, going well, asked for effort entering straight, made good progress on leaders, not reach winner, ran on well 3rd Legend Of The Sea Wrs Stables Led early to halfway, headed and one pace entering straight, came again late on 4th Passion Flower Gissys Nags Rear early, effort and ridden from halfway, ran on one pace 5th Eyes Of Emerald Victor Consortio Chased leaders, third and asked to quicken, found little Only five runners on show for the opening race in this season’s Oaks campaign. Shes My Girl returned to the challenge scene with a most impressive victory. Always going well down the far side, her effort entering the straight put the race to bed. Quickening up and showing a devastating turn of foot she cruised past early leader, Legend Of The Sea. Barely ask the full question her jockey took a pull and eased her to the line to record a more than comfortable win. Paranoid Parasite can consider herself a little unlucky in defeat and her jockey may have given her too much to do late on. She ran on strong as they approached the straight but couldn't get to the leader. Legend Of The Sea couldn't quite go with Shes My Girl when the chips were down and failed to hold off the late surge of Paranoid Parasite. Passion Flower ran the race at the one pace and never looked like striking a blow with Eyes Of Emerald bringing up the rear. The Oaks looks like it will be Shes My Girl's main target for the season as the three year old filly looks to extend on her 100% championship final record. Positive Paranoid Parasite looks the obvious choice after a slow start and powerful finish in this race. Taken a little closer to the fore in the future could see this one in the winner's enclosure for sure. Negative Eyes Of Emerald can do better than what she showed in this race. Xtreme Diva makes a grand entrance at the St Leger fillies while Dusk Til Dawn also goes the distance against the colts. Both from Sky Castle!

The RaceClubs.com Challenge Series St Leger Challenge Qualifier 3YO Colts - - Wednesday 4th August 2010 - - Dusk Til Dawn Sky Castle Stables Quickly hit front, challenged inside last, held on, made all, impressive 2nd El Legendario Shotgun Mike Took hold in rear, tracked leaders, going well, ridden final 400m, not reach winner 3rd Never Yield Unconte Stable Midfield, took closer order 2nd halfway, no extra final 200m 4th Private Lightning Shotgun Mike Raced midfield throughout, ridden and effort final third, one pace 5th Reversed Infusion Shotgun Mike Always at rear, stayed on same pace passed tired horses 6th Master Exploder Fanfield Midfield, struggled with pace from halfway, no extra 7th International Spy Divine Diva Stables Ridden along, midfield, effort and not quicken, faded On paper this race was a keen match-up between Dusk Til Dawn and Juvenile Stayers Champion and runner-up, El Legendario and Master Exploder. Dusk Til Dawn was sixth in the race and was looking to turn the form on its head over the extended trip. Quick from the gates and drawing a good six lengths out of the chasing pack, Dusk Til Dawn raced alone throughout. The Sky Castle Stables three year old was never headed and won this with a little in hand. El Legendario gave himself too much to do in the final third and despite a strong finish, the winner had his number and reversed last seasons form in some style and clearly relished the soft going. Never Yield is another who likes a little cut in the ground and his third here is encouraging. Although the job in hand may have been slightly beyond him his effort was admirable on very testing conditions. His jockey set sail from the 400m marker but the horse couldn't pick up near the finish. Making it to the money and in fourth place was another Shotgun Mike runner. Private Lightning seemed to stay the 3200m well enough, albeit at the one pace. His run here suggests a consolation final run is not beyond his expectations. Positive Dusk Til Dawn clearly shined over the distance and going and made up for not featuring in the juvenile final over similar conditions. Negative Master Exploder was very sluggish and looked a shadow of his former self when contesting the juvenile final. Wayne Bailey could never get the colt in the race. The RaceClubs.com Challenge Series St Leger Challenge Qualifier 3YO Fillies - - Wednesday 4th August 2010 - - Xtreme Diva Sky Castle Stables Took keen hold and held up, steady progress throughout, lost pitch wide making turn, ridden to lead straight, finished strong 2nd Natalia From Mosc Burkveen Racing Sluggish start, closed on leaders, handy pitch entering straight, stayed on well 3rd Poetic Yesterday Shotgun Mike With leader early, took it up after 600m, led till headed halfway, ridden vigorously in straight, came again, no extra close home 4th Wicked Wench Winning Post Fast away, led early, effort and came again, one paced when headed 5th Black Or White Ruxton Racing Last for most, closed from halfway, stayed on same pace 6th Devil's Daughter Butlers Yard Always in rear, rails, no effort straight 7th Sherezade Gissys Nags Always midfield, one pace throughout, slowly faded 8th Rare Foray Tocohnas Slow away, ridden to take closer order, wide, never a factor Xtreme Diva made it a St Leger double for the Sky Castle Stables. Ridden at the rear of the field and taking a keen hold her effort came from halfway. Quickly closing on the leaders her effort was slightly hindered making the turn after she appeared to lose her momentum. All was not lost and as she entered the straight her injection of pace was evident as she slid through on the outer to take the race well. Natalia From Mosc, another who took a rear position early in the race made steady headway throughout the race and although not possessing the finish that cam from the winner, she can take the positives out of this performance. Poetic Yesterday and Wicked Wench had somewhat of a ding-dong battle for the lead for most of this race. Both led and were headed on several occasions during running and maybe they had taken enough out of each other to improve on their final positions. Poetic Yesterday ran two cracking races in the juvenile finals, finishing third in both the classic and stayers races and she has obviously trained on well. Wicked Wench, an expensive auction purchase last term needs to improve on recent efforts if she is going to live up to her hype. I'm sure we will see the best of her soon enough. Positive Wicked Wench ran a good enough race in defeat to suggest she has the credentials to put one over on her rivals and is sure to see the winner's enclosure this term. Her WCD form was exceptional, scoring a great win over her elders and if she can step up on that form then she will be a force to be reckoned with. Negative Rare Foray never got into the race and will have her work cut out based on this effort. She will need to improve significantly on this effort to compete with the best.
