Tanglewood brings two capable stayers into the race with his charges of Fantabulous and Phantasmagorical. Both look well equipped at 2850m but leave something to the imagination over the extended trip. Fantabulous runs the race of the minimum weight which may play to his advantage. Phantasmagorical shoulders 124lbs and that may be a tough ask in the race with quality to boot. The soft going is something of an unknown for both horses. The latter was a fine runner-up behind Randwick in a seasonal monthly championship. That form looks good on paper but his handicap with the weight is to play a major part on the outcome of this race for the yard. The class act in the race is El Legendario. He heads a trio of Shotgun Mike entries. Soulquake System may have incurred too much weight after his last success but with El Legendario competing off 120lbs, the champion trainer holds a massive chance to take this title with his April auction superstar. Supreme Majesty will probably enjoy underfoot conditions and may be regarded as the yards second string in the race and not without his chances.

Six horses come into the race with 124lbs on their backs. This may be a major clue as to whether they stay this 3200m course and distance. Joining Phantasmagorical and Soulquake System are Northsouth Divide, Never Yield, Yipiyio and Hyper Drive. Never Yield has winning form over the maximum in qualifiers. The Unconte Stable will hope that the penalty here will be brushed aside and the colt can perform off top weight. A place is not out of the question but whether he can concede weight to a few very tasty animals is doubtful. The other three all look to have an uphill battle facing them and it is hard to see any of the trio striking a winning blow. Stable mate to Yipiyio is Dusk Til Dawn. A couple of good runs over 3200m this season indicate that the colt will have absolutely no worries when tackling this final. Dusk Til Dawn will be all out to put a thorn in El Legendario's side and must be regarded as a player.

Hari Harian is an interesting runner in the race. Westdene Stables look to have secured a very wise auction purchase. The horse has nothing to lose in the race and some decent form on yielding could signify that the horse, although lightly raced, could take a liking to the soft ground. Deep Stick has an effort to give in any race and will be pumped up for the challenge but a difficult one may wait. The distance will be no issue to the Al Mighty trained black colt and with form to boot on the going he could be a lively outsider for the race. If anyone slips up in the race then this one could be the one to pounce and must be considered an each way opportunity in the race.

It's always nice to have a horse running a final off minimum weight. Fanfield has done well to get his charge into the final on 120lbs. Master Exploder may not have been on anyone's shortlist prior to the heavens opening. The Australian track has seen some major downpours in the days running up to the final and will now bee officially declared as soft. The heavy rain has played into Master Exploder's hands quite nicely. The distance is generally considered as favourable for the horse and he shouldn't have any difficulty with the going. Taking all aspects into consideration he must have a chance against this field but whether he has the credentials to match the likes of El Legendario and Dusk Til Dawn off level weight is where his chance lies, common sense says he comes up a little short but will be on many a shortlist come race day.

What The Trainers Say...

......"Despite only joining less than 3 months ago, I was determined to go as slowly as possible on here to learn as much as I could (hence the low number of races). However, landing Master Exploder forced me to do 2 things - learn quickly, and enjoy it a lot more. I'm not expecting him to win on friday, but a good going, good random, and rivals' horses in other races may work in my favour. Place at most for me "......Fanfield

......"The ground has come in his favour and he stays the 3200 just fine. There are undoubtedly better quality horses in the race and I would be delighted to be anywhere in the money.".......Al Mighty
