An interesting affair is in store when the juvenile colts take to the track to contest the final of the Sprinters Challenge Final. The race looks a wide open affair after the ante-post favourite, Darley Arabian came up short in his efforts for qualification. There are a few exposed in the race, who will find the going tough. King Kenny D has weight and the draw to contend with and may have been a little better suited in a consolation race. Jose Mourinho, may well be named after "The Special One" but three wins in maiden and qualifier company have resulted in the colt being shouldered with 124lbs which may have put paid to his final opportunity to score a championship. Two other horses will lumber the top weight in the race and with the onus on getting to the final as light as possible they may also be found out. Serene Vibe will be giving his trainer his first taste of the finals and 124lbs will certainly need to be at his best. The interesting runner in the race is Gentleman Earl. It would come as no surprise to see this quality colt easily overcome weight and draw and put in a sterling effort. Is the win within beyond his reach? My guess is that the Liveoak trained will be there or there about at the finish.

Of the remainder, drawn against the rails and quietly making his way into the final is Polital Refugee. The Frank Lopez colt looks to hold some good ability after some consistant performances without actually winning and would be considered a major player if the final was run over 1200m, the final trip of 1400m may stretch him a little. Full Force Racing has been very busy with The Rock Star. The black colt has competed in no less than seventeen qualifiers and two monthly finals en route to this final and amazingly the trainer has kept the weight to a minimum, a credit to his horse handling skills.

Excitement will be in the Bradlite camp when the stalls open, although not expecting much from his charge and playing down his chances, Specialistsubject is not without a claim. Toxic Armada has noticeable form over Wizzimo but it is the latter who may turn the tables on the Stardust Racing charge. Sky Castle Stables are not short with their entries in the race and hold a very strong hand indeed with Wizzimo looking the pick of the bunch. Flotilla Way has form over a bunch of these and will look to put in a big effort should the ground come up good, the two pound penalty for that win may be brushed aside. Star Watch was barely three quarters off the winner in that race and must have the credentials under normal circumstance but a poor draw may be his stumbling block.

Silver Sprinter comes out of the yard who gave us Sir Sam Silver, most likely bred from the success of his champion grey. Like his stable companinion he is a grey but clearly is not of the same mould as the stable star. With form to show on yielding over 1400m his chances may rely on a little cut in the ground. Gogorunner is another trainer who has tip-toed his colt into contention. London's Pride is one to keep an eye on. Drawn on the inner it is difficult to weigh up his chances and could be the enigma of the race. Finally, never discount the chances of the champion trainer who brings Shogun Superman to the party. Another who is difficult to sum up but gut feeling says he's not here just to make up the numbers.

What The Trainers Say...

......"First of all I would just like to say I would be absolutely delighted to get to one final let alone two and one conso in my first proper season. I would have had a great chance here if it wasnt for my exuberance to get him on the track and win races way back in April. This is my first proper season and I didn't really know about the extra weight for wins. Oh well, you never know! If I get soft or yielding and a good random He will not be without a chance and I would love to get in first three"......Daltons Donkeys

......"Well, no horse in the last three years has won from a high draw; and given the weight penalty as well I think King Kenny will need Dwain Chambers' cough medicine to even place!! I am chuffed to be there though. Despite superb advice along the way i still managed to be the 'noob' naiive and impatient. Hopefully I have learnt a sharp lesson"........Kopites

......"Was very happy to make it to the final as he's a bit of a one trick pony, sorry I mean specialist. Over 1400 on Good or Firm he is a serious animal but running qually's over 1200/1600 on Yielding/Soft and Muddy, only the randoms were ever going to get him there. Weight and draw are good now and if I can be lucky with the going he will be a serious contender".....Gogorunner

......"Gentleman Earl has two Finals on his agenda with the Sprint being his best chance. He'll be charging down the stretch but will need a deep turf course to get the job done. He's carrying a couple more pounds than I was hoping but with a strong ride, he can gain a share of the pot.".....Liveoak Stables

......"Not expecting anything from Specialistsubject in the final, but certainly looking forward to my first final. Place money may be a possibility with good ground and a kind random. Specialistsubject is much better over 1200, so will possibly go for the 3yo final, but more likely the 5yo"......Bradlite

......"Running in Lads final on saturday over best trip. Hopefully will do well then go for the final over 1400. Top notch tt's over this distance but draw has not been kind. Just have to wait and see, a place would be nice"......Stardust Racing

......"Mine has got very lttle chance as He is strictly a 1200m horse. He will need a good jockey if he has a chance for a place"......Frank Lopez
